This model will also be known as the OCZ Whitebook, oddly the site pushes the Corsair memory as an upgrade option.
Designed to be a mobile desktop and doubles as a gaming machine, it cannot go long without being plugged in so if you are looking for something a bit more lap friendly this machine might not be for you.
Showing it around at IDF most people commented on the finish and finger prints, this doesn't bother me but if that is a concern this is a fingerprint magnet.
Weight is 11.5 pounds not including the power brick, daily travel might be a problem for some, lan events or someone who needs the graphics horsepower on the go this will do very nicely.
Pretty much every feature possible is in the Extreme M1, I expect to switch over to solid state hard drives when available to increase battery life in power saver mode.
In power saver mode I get about two hours battery life if I dont run 3D and crossfire. Watching a full length movie is possible on battery, I have done it.
Overclocking I can reach 500Mhz overclock on both cores without any special cooling, the system must be on a flat table for proper air flow. This should be normal for others to hit. 1Ghz overclock on both cores is possible with added cooling, I will be using a 8K BTU AC unit for my high speed runs.
No issues with the video cards overheating other than the back plate must stay on, removing it will cause the GPU's to fail.
Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility is operational and works with the XTU enabled bios. XTU gives you more options that what is available in bios. You can adjust vcore, vmem, memory timing, FSB, and multiples. You must save to bios and reboot for changes to take effect, you can change FSB without rebooting.
There is no ability to change NB voltage and I seem to max out at 312Mhz on this sample. I will push harder once under AC blast.
Im going with low speed benches first and I will update with high speed benches. No AC assist, ambient air. I will be adding more benches, bandwidth to Cinebench. I will swap back to X9100 for 4Ghz + benches.
