This model will also be known as the OCZ Whitebook, oddly the site pushes the Corsair memory as an upgrade option.

Designed to be a mobile desktop and doubles as a gaming machine, it cannot go long without being plugged in so if you are looking for something a bit more lap friendly this machine might not be for you.

Showing it around at IDF most people commented on the finish and finger prints, this doesn't bother me but if that is a concern this is a fingerprint magnet.

Weight is 11.5 pounds not including the power brick, daily travel might be a problem for some, lan events or someone who needs the graphics horsepower on the go this will do very nicely.

Pretty much every feature possible is in the Extreme M1, I expect to switch over to solid state hard drives when available to increase battery life in power saver mode.

In power saver mode I get about two hours battery life if I dont run 3D and crossfire. Watching a full length movie is possible on battery, I have done it.

Overclocking I can reach 500Mhz overclock on both cores without any special cooling, the system must be on a flat table for proper air flow. This should be normal for others to hit. 1Ghz overclock on both cores is possible with added cooling, I will be using a 8K BTU AC unit for my high speed runs.

No issues with the video cards overheating other than the back plate must stay on, removing it will cause the GPU's to fail.

Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility is operational and works with the XTU enabled bios. XTU gives you more options that what is available in bios. You can adjust vcore, vmem, memory timing, FSB, and multiples. You must save to bios and reboot for changes to take effect, you can change FSB without rebooting.

There is no ability to change NB voltage and I seem to max out at 312Mhz on this sample. I will push harder once under AC blast.

Im going with low speed benches first and I will update with high speed benches. No AC assist, ambient air. I will be adding more benches, bandwidth to Cinebench. I will swap back to X9100 for 4Ghz + benches.

pretty nasty temps for a laptop.... looks more like the mac books that would set your leg on fire.
i think they have a long way to go to get proper cooling.

(i hope to heck they are not using the typical single heatpipe on the core)

Where did you get the Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility? Been looking for it for a while now...

any pics of the heatsink units?

You should be able to drop the volts too for the Q9300, i'm over 3600mhz @ 1.2v (and less) on my E0's.. though they're 771 I guess.

You might also follow a thread over at the guruofgaming forums. Killernotebooks got their hands on one and has started playing. He calls it the Nagamaki (it's a OCz Whitebook).
Typically, he also overclocks. He also does bios mods, os tweaks, core logic software, custom cooling, etc. Here are his benches so far.

http://www.killernotebooks.com/nagamaki/images/benchmarks/3d06_14602.png

He's been working on tweaking the gpu's drivers. So far on Crysis, he's up to:
stock: Run #1- 1024x768 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Last Average FPS: 25.83
best runs so far: Run #1- 1024x768 AA=No AA, 64 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 48.525

and larger resolution with his latest
Run #1- 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 64 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 30.8225

Just a quick update what Killernotebooks has been upto since they've gotten the production models.
He's now cnc machining new heatsinks to shed heat better. Fighting with OCz since their 1333 ram isn't working on the production model. He's working with Arima and OCz because the QX9300 has bios issues.

Anyway, he's got it overclocked and expects to get a bit more out of it in the next week or so. As it stands, he's got it upto 15,143 3dMark06 on air with just a multiplier overclock.
http://www.killernotebooks.com/nagamaki/images/benchmarks/3D06_15046_full.png

And a more normal overclock I'm guessing will be his product's overclock at 3.00 GHz
http://www.killernotebooks.com/nagamaki/images/benchmarks/QX9300_3GHz_BoostButton.png

He's going to post temp screenies later, but he's done the 9100 oc'd to 3.33 GHz and got 75 degrees at full load with his new heat blocks.

subscribing because...

Due to the way life turns I still want to game but have to be more mobile, with emphasis on "more" not "totally" so a DTR is in the offing in the next 6mo or so. Curious to see how the Quad is performing and how high it can clock. Running a room AC through the thing is exaaccctly what I was thinking for speed when home based.

Think 40nm GPU's in the springtime and a quadcore and possibly the Q45 chipset, 160gb SSD and 500gb/7200 and you will have a good idea of what I'm thinkin.

:) TY Fugger for a nice job that just read my mind!

mhooper1125

Well I have 2 of the Intel 120 SSDS going in here shortly.

If you just want to clock the Quad it has been verified by Intel to hit at least 3.7 Gigs. I have gotten mine to 3.4 without additional cooling.

So I would say with direct AC 4.0+ Gigs would be a safe assuption.

If you guys have any particular benchmarks you would like to see please feel free to drop me a line.

Drivers are still a beast to find...

mhooper1125
11-11-2008, 11:04 AM
Yes they are. I have some modified GPU drivers. I am still looking for a good BIOS I can open with Phoenix since mine doesnt want to open correctly, if you have one would be much obliged.

What BIOS are you currently using?

Thank you!

Sure can would you like em to emal you the newest version of the driver?

Im going to stat a new thread. Please respond there.

Window shopping at the moment - like to know the particulars before laying out that kind of money.

Figured seeing the sound chip would be as easy as hardware manager :)

Thank you!

ps: so no driver needed yet but I'm checking to see what is available since that's often a sign of things down the road

Awesome. I dont know where you plan on ordering from. However I ordered my from Killer Notebooks. Nice price with the QX9300 or X9100. Also working with Mark (owner) on a database for his customers of the best overclocking settings, programs to use, optimal setting for all the popular games. Also has a KN Core optimization program which is an awesome utility to control all 4 cores and set priorites and core data.

Anyways wasnt really meant to be a plug but you can read about it at Guruofgaming.com and Killernotebooks.com if interested. Has some good info on the notebook in general no matter where you decide to order. He offers a driver page with some custom drivers for download etc.
