I think you have it set to "sort by rating" there mate, if you go farther into it, all the reviews change to Very Satisfied.

No, look at the dates. I'm only interested in what they've done lately, last 22 reviews very dissatisfied.

I have bought stuff over the last few years from them and never had a problem. OK after reading all the negitive that happen on the same card I say someone made a ton of accounts under a different name, just read them and they all say the same thing or real close to the same terms I should say. Somebody got pissed because of a pricing error and wanted to mess with them just my 2 cents. It all uses the same term bait and switch lol

Read the reviews and you'll realize most are from the recent 4870 price mistake. I'm not sure how it's a bait and switch when all they do is cancel your order.

I hope they are a good company, but I doubt they will have the new drives before the bigger etailers.

Several people have said that this is a good company to deal with, so I'm going to drop the subject.
If anyone places an order for this drive, please post the results.

There owned by Super Talent memory, hence all the ST ads, still it's a great store, i've ordered from them more than 5 times. I remember when they had a thing where they gave free pc hardware to people who wrote reviews, i ended up winning a bunch of crap.

woops sorry i posted before i saw this:

I've ordered from Provantage many times spending atleast $300 everything. I live in Missouri and apparently they are close or have a nearby warehouse but I get my orders in two business days when I opt for the cheapest shipping.

Well, considering that the previous 150GB Raptor is $174.99 at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136011), I consider this a decent deal. If you don't understand why people prefer Raptors, then that's a different subject.

provantage is usually quicker than ewiz but i have never had a problem with either.

my 150gb VR is here monday, considering the performance its a sweet deal. these things are significantly faster than the previous 150 raptor, much more spread in performance from previous gen than from 8mb to 16mb raptors.

i guess i got lucky again, buy.com pulls the same BS with people. I never had an issue with them either, i order, goes thru, i get tracking, some others order they get the shaft lol.

for the person that recieved their lump of coal, i know the WD P# is for retail but did you infact recieve a retail VR ? also is it really a clear top?

vladimir
08-22-2008, 04:55 AM
It was listed as retail but was in fact, an OEM. And no, they do not have clear tops. I would imagine that would have been called a VelociRaptorX.

HLFS should come with second generation "IcePack" (ref. GLFS).
Won't go for Ohio then either: http://www.provantage.com/western-digital-wd740hlfs-20pk~AWND9011.htm

I'd expect the 150 GB prices quite bullish for they near future due to one platter/performance/capacity/demand.

The HLFS versions have the power and data connectors repositioned to work properly with the SATA hot swap bays through the addition of an interposer card. The GLFS versions are the original, simpler design that does not fit properly with hot swap bays.

By comparing your oem raptors and they HFLS, are you satisfied regarding the noise emission? What's your impression?

vladimir
09-05-2008, 02:40 PM
My original 150GB Raptors must have made me def, because I can't hear the VelociRaptor at all! I have to put me ear directly next to my case to hear it. This is a TJ07 case which has no rubber grommets or any other sound deadening for the hard drives. The VelociRaptor may not be the quietest hard drive, but it seems d@mn close.

The Fool

That's good news.
I'm using these http://www.cooltechpc.com/c/ctpc/std/sku=disktwin_aluminum.html http://www.pc-cooling.de/Low-Noise+PC/HDD+Accessories/600300731/Cooltek+Anti-Vibrations+HDD-Silencer.html?language=en#top for "conventional raptors" (+ active cooling) as my favorite 5.25" solutions.
HDD dampening might be unnecessary then for the 1 platter HLFS (due to different case layouts).
