Hey everyone, I'm pretty new here and I am considering a mountain mods case as my first WC rig. I'm trying to get an idea of what the wrinkle black painting looks like compared to the anodized black finish. If anyone has some close up pics of the two finishes I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I believe they are both powder-coated not anodized and painted.

According to the website they have wrinkle black powder coat, mirror black powder coat, anodized black, etc etc. Think the OP is asking about the difference between wrinkle black powder coat and anodized black.

Easy reply, black wrinkle coat is a flat black textured finish, anodized is a high gloss smooth black finish.

I agree with Andy, for the amount of money you spend on those cases, get samples.

Also try a search, I know there are close up pics of both as well.

I've got a MM in the anodized black, and I wouldn't call it high-gloss at all. It's a very flat color.

The mirror black powdercoat IS very high gloss. Very bling, and sexy.
But it scratches pretty easily, and picks up fingerprints (and dust) like a fat guy picks up twinkies. ie fast and often.

The wrinkle black is a flatter coating and has a distinct texture to it. I don't particularly care for it, but it doesn't look bad at all.
Still rather prone to scratches (from what I understand) too.

The anodized black is a very flat color. It's highly scratch resistant and doesn't pick up fingerprints easily.
However, it does lack a lot of the bling of the other finishes. Also (and it may just be my case), but the drive bays and drive bay covers
are slightly darker in tint than the rest of the case panels. Again, doesn't look bad, but if you're anal about all the pieces matching . . .

When/If I get another MM case, personally, I'm thinking about going with either the gloss red or gloss white finish.

By the way, I'm using the "big window" panels on the sides and the "diamond" panel on the top. The diamond has 4 80mm fans around the edge
and makes a great exhaust point for the airflow in the case.

If I were to buy another MM case, I'd get one in unpainted

That being said

Wrinkle vs Gloss Black (both powdercoated)

Remember 1 thing, Wrinkled paint looks cool but its impossible to clean properly. Dust gets in there and you cant wipe it all off, you can get it mostly clean with compressed air but its still a pain compared to simply brushing dust off with a rag.

Is this something similar to the finish? I've seen this around at home depot, etc...

I just painted an old case with black hammered style spray paint, looks very similar to the wrinkle powder coat. Not near as nice, but similar none the less.

Naa hammered is a bit different, it looks cool also though. It creates a finish that looks a bit broken up but is completely smooth. I think they get it by having 2 forms of coloring agents that don't mix with each other or something.

I have the black wrinkle and like it very much. I have friends that have the gloss black and they scratch really easy. MM said that the wrinkle finish holds up better which I would have to agree with no that I have had mine just about a year. As for cleaning I might agree that its a little harder then gloss...

I must be lucky then, I have the gloss black case and it hasn't scratched. Even when I drilled my fillports, I noticed how thick the layer of paint was.

[I have to disagree with the statement that you can't clean it, i have the Wrinkle coat H2Go and the hi gloss black duality. Also my wrinkle coat is a lot more resistent to scratches then my gloss black system,

You can easily clean the Wrinkle coat, I just cleaned mine up yesterday and it looks like the day i got it. m And it's used at a test bench so it get a good workout every day.

I love both. I love my Duality High Gloss Black, it looks so sweet, but the fingerprints do pick up easy, and show even worse with a camera, prob because of the light.

I also love the wrinkle coat, especially since I use it as a test bench, it takes a lick and still looks like the day i got it,

To me the Duality is my show case, it could not be anything but a high gloss paint. But i do love the wrinkle coat for the smaller H2go which is not a showpiece, but more functional.

I also have brushed Alu H2 ufo, At first I didn't think I would like the brushed look, but it would look great with black accents and would make a great case, so i think you need to figure out your personal taste, I like the idea of getting something to see the texture and look of their finishes.

havent seen and anodised but From what i have heard, it's a love it or hate it relationship,
so take your time,

with a Mountian Mods you are not just buying a case you are buying a whole different way of computing, the space just gives you so many options it the Juice! BUT the ala cart expence just keeps adding up to make it look it's best!

Here is my Wrinkle Coat with my latest project, "Rampage on the Water"
Which will prob be the last system i put in this case for a while....
In the picvture it looks a little dulkler in real life is more black and has a dull shinet it.

Followed by my Duality, Dual quads running dual core gpu's....:ROTF:

Thanks for all the replies i think ordering sample 5.25 covers is the best idea. The pictures are somewhat helpful but it's hard to get an idea of what it will look like in the flesh

Give Ben a call, I'm sure he can work something out, maybe he has some that have gotten damaged. Sell em to you for a song.. Can't hurt to ask.

I couldnt scratch anodized with a flat head screwdriver after grinding on it for 15 seconds. =)

uhhh powder coat isnt scratch proof either. Sure its hell as hard to scratch, but i did it, and you can see i did.

powder coat > annodized if you have OCD and cant stand finger prints.

I hate finger prints.
