I bought a swiftech mcw50-T.I am going to put it on a radeon 9700 pro.

Would it be possible to run the pelt at 7 volts(wire-trick) and still get some good results(like standard mcw50) without having to worry about extra insulation?

sure, but you need load on both the 5v/12v rail. otherwise the PSU won't power on

I will not be using a special/seperate PSU but i will use my main PSU(antec Truepower 550W)

Will this be OK?
and still have nice performance?

yeah it'll be ok. what vidcard have you got?

What is the normal voltage you need to feed the swifty blocks? I ordered swifty blocks with the 226W and 80W pelts and they should be here soon. I was told to run the 226W at 13V. Will the 80W run good at 13V as well? The reason I ask is I want to power both pelts with my mean well s-320-12 and I can't adjust voltage seperately.

Both 80w and 226w swifty blocks use 15v Vmax thermoelectric modules, a.k.a. pelts.
They run 'below' spec to hit the 'sweet spot' between cooling performance and own heat generated by the element (the highier volt the better cooling the more own heat produced by pelt and more thermnal load to your watercooling loop).
Running 80w @ 7v would defiy the purpose and lead to sucha performance drop that using air cooling would yield better results.
My R9500np soft modded and run @410 core with MCW50-T cooled by very high performance water cooling is only able to get my core down to 19C at full prolonged load, which is not so fantastic (stock cooling was giving 65C before), ambient air ~22C.
Running them @13V and max 15 if your cooling can handle it is a better option.

Ok thanks for the info. That will work out perfect. I was told for the 226W 13V is the sweet spot for most. So I will run both of them at 13C and see how they do.

Make sure you post results back, oh and do some 'befor' and 'after' tests :)

I don't think you'll be able to power both the 226 and 80w pelts off the s320 @ 13v. I have done this and had to turn the voltage down a little bit. What happens is the combined current requirements of these 2 pelts at 13v exceeds the power supply protection limit (~25amps?) and it will shut down. If you really want to run both pelts off this psu and will be happy with less than 13v, you can start with the voltage around 12 and slowly tweak up the psu voltage untill the unit shuts down, then back the voltage down a bit. I finally decided that i would just run the 226 off the meanwell psu @13v, and run my 80w pelt off my truecontrol 550. Works great that way and I'm not overloading/overheating the meanwell (shortening its life?)..
:D

you will kill your computer with the wire trick
