Very nice pics. I really like the lion. What kind of camera were they taken with?

thanks, some with my D80, others with my D300, the lion was definately the D300

no, they were taken with the nikon d300 with a sigma 100-300mm f/4 :)

I used to have nikon's 18-200mm VR lens but i didnt like it. I'm not sure why peoplel rave about VR, i could never get on with it properly

Thanks guys, the lion was actually quite hard to snap, if you look closely you'll see the outline of a wire fence, as he was behind it.

The VR in the 18-200 doesnt seem that impressive, but you have to try it on a supertele. On my 70-300VR it is/was insane. I would be shaking all over the place and then I hold the shutter down and voila! everything stabilizes. The first time I tested it out at the Camera store i about crapped myself.

but for wide angle and normal lenses, its not very useful. Camera shake is less worrysome than subject movement. This is why the 12-24 and 24-70 dont have VR whereas the 70-200 and on up have it.

However, if I need to shoot fast, I'd rather have a f/2.8 or f/4 lens, faster shutter speed, maybe put the ISO up a little bit, and larger aperture

Well who wouldnt? But 99% of people cant afford F2.8 lenses.

Excellent pictures. Really nice car you have there too, BUT surely you dont live in the UK ? Those beach pictures have sand and sun in them.

yes I am in the UK, the beach pics where in the very very edge of south west, in Cornwall. Obviously we dont get weather like that all the time, maybe about 1 week per year ! :)
