The Fan in automatic speed is not noisy , only if we set the fan speed manually !

Try: Crysis DX10, Very High, 1920*1200, 16*QAA & AF and post up your results. There may be less of a performance hit than you think ;)

The ClubOverclocker review has been the best at testing the 4870X2 under AA so I'd be keen to see another impartial bench. Much appreciated :)

So far i only tested Crysis "in Game" with 1680x1050 @ Very High @ AA 4x


In Crysis has the usual breaks when Saving game or Big explosions/lot of action ( game runs pretty much like 9800GX2 ) not like the HD3870X2 or HD3870 CF when FPS drops from 40fps to 5/10fps , with 4870X2 there is no FPS drop like that !

with catalyst CD Driver ( bundled with card) i also had "bad" performance , but then i installed catalyst 8.8 beta and its really better

Thx for the testing. It's quite impressive how on 1680x1050 there's only minimal FPS drop going to AA4x and AA in Crysis makes it look like a whole new game, those screens are really nice. I thought u maybe used some texture mods at first but then I saw 4xAA... Too bad only a few cards can handle Crysis with AA. The temps are much better than I had expected. But I guess you're testing without a comp case as temps on ur GPU tests are always somewhat low so I'd expect for the average user it will prolly run slightly hotter but nice nonetheless.

i got an engineering sample of 4870x2
the only driver that i managed to install is the one that I got with the videocard, but
its SO buggy that it renders the gpu practically unusable. (driver ver. 8.54-080811n-021649E-ATI)
when i tried to install sampleHD4800X2VISTA8-52-2 (normal 8.52) that is linked in this thread, installation worked perfectly,
but upon reboot, computer is not recognizing driver.
device manager states : "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
also the driver is _not_ digitall signed.
can that be the reason, or is it because I have an engineering sample?

catalyst 8.7 doesn't even recognize the video card (i'm pretty sure its not supposed to, since it is dated 20th july and the launch was on aug, 12)
4870 x2 shipped with 8.52 (8.8 beta i think)
i did manage to install 8.52 by cutting/pasting actual driver folder into the whole unpacked setup one.
i still get _m.a.d._ artifacts in 3dmark vantage with aa on.
most other games are okayish
crysis runs like a charm, just a tad slower than on your rig.
it seems that mine is a plug-and-pray type of device ^^
i _really_ hope that first official 8.8 will be installable on this thingy...
could you dump your bios via gpu-z and upload it somewhere? i would really appreciate it.

Crysis numbers are far above what some other sites posted, i wonder if a driver issue. IE Tweaktown report 2 x 4870x2 1920x1200 VH = 21fps.

The TweakTown test is bad: Q6600 @ 3 Ghz, Vista with only 2 GB PC6400 RAM:p:, and then Catalyst 8.7 that doesn't even support 4870X2.

then go to

windows vista >> C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\profile created in CCC .XML >>> Open with Notepad

then change "ATOMATIC" to "MANUAL"

and "Want" value="xx" >>> xx= value you want for fan speed (example : "30" = 30% or "45" = 45%)

if you make a profile in catalyst after turning on Overdrive( make sure clock and memory settings are correct).

Then You can then go to the file "C:\Users\Bretware(username)\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\ Bretw are. XML. the xml file will have the same name as the catalyst profile you saved. right click and hit edit.

with catalyst of CD Bundle i also had less performance (about -7 fps @ crysis ) , but with catalyst 8.8 beta = 6/7 fps increase

I just got this card today but the HIS Hightech part. I ran mine totally stock along with my Q9650 stock and scored only 8912 in Vantage...does that sound right to you guys? My idle temps were 80c!!! This card is definitely getting water-cooled. Now I'm wondering if a single triple rad will cool a quad and this videocard sufficiently.

Any input on my Vantage score would be great...I'm using the official driver available on ATI's site. I read about an official ATI BIOS update for this videocard...is this true and if so has anyone used it yet?

8912 marks in vantage Extreme or Performance mode??

about bios i didnt flash the card with any bios , im using the original Bios !

Temperature just use Rivatuner 2.11 to control Fan speed !

Your picture shows 4870x2 being in 2D mode. So those are the 4870x2 fillrates when clocks are only 507MHz for core and only 500MHz for memory.
