I am going to be ordering this very soon, although it is more exp than the HP 14.1" at $800.

I like the dell's chassis more.

I have heard there are coupons or something that offer % discount.

I have tried searching but whatever i type in it says invalid. So i come here for help.

If someone has exp with that and how good is dell's warranty? if there is a problem is the laptop shipped away?

The XPS 1330 comes with an 8400M GS and other 8x00M cards which are now obsolete. You can find cheaper and faster 9600M and 9500M based notebooks now.

This here will own any XPS M1330: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115486&nm_mc=OTC-17exta6&cm_mmc=OTC-17exta6-_-Notebooks-_-Acer+America-_-34115486 at only $999.

It is a 16" notebook, i was really looking for a small laptop. I am not going ot be gaming on it, maybe CSS once in a while but gaming perf doesnt matter to me. I am using it stricly for note taking and browsing the web in class, i have my main desktop at home.

i want a small notebook, strong CPU, that looks nice and is pretty light

i thnk the M1330 has all those features..

However, if you're just looking for a small note-taking notebook, then here's one of the newer ones: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?seg=HHO&poid=418459

It's based on the new AMD Puma platform meaning the power envelope is tiny, runs cool and can play CSS ocassionally with a 13.3" screen to boot :)

the m1330 is a great laptop.
I have the m1210, it's precursor with a 7400 go.
Theres no other ultra mobile under 1000 that has a solid video card, and a intel chipset.
Make sure to overclock the 8400gs, (rivatuner) and use rm clock to under volt the cpu!
As for the amd based toshiba perkam posted, no offense but that thing sucks.

Mind what you say if you don't do the research.

Here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220366

Just for you to start comprehending what Perkam was saying. This laptop will outperform the one you want to get in every game out there or other video intensive tasks by as much as 200% and is cheaper.

I will try to find a smaller one for you.

Here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220360

If you are really not interested in gaming at all and just want something light for use in school. It will run most games though. You can spend the extra 500$ on something else.

So what if you're from Canada? Just search for the exact same model at one of your retailers, it shouldn't be THAT much more expensive.

Or how about this model?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117626

It has the Intel integrated video card for everyday use and longer battery life and that 8400 for when you want to watch a movie or something?

my cousin and my brother have this laptop.
forget the creative sound thingy and get the 9 cell battery.
stick with the 8100, it's should use less power than the 5750, and it should be faster.
the chassis, the monitor, and the battery life basically make this laptop worth the extra over other laptops.

the only complaint i have is that dell should be selling this laptop with the 9300m instead of the 8400m. it's the same card essentially, but it should have a better video decoder or something, and possibly uses less power. not a big deal, but you would expect dell to be on the vanguard of this type of thing.

Personally, I'm waiting for the Montevina refresh, as Montevina is the platform that will be compatible with the mobile Quads...the refresh will be out soon.

I'm waiting anxiously (trying to be patient)...running out of patience with Dell though....they are seriously dragging on this one. Probably to clear their stock of the older machines before offering the new ones...

Here's (http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/latit_efamily_landing?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd) the Montevina refresh for the Latitude line. One option is a "Linux-based low-power mode called Dell Latitude On, which boots in two seconds. It offers more than a day’s worth of battery life for basic tasks like web surfing, Exchange e-mail, and viewing e-mail attachments, and runs on an ARM-based (ARMH) chip rather than the main Intel processor." http://bigtech.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/08/12/dells-comeback-machine/. You're also supposed to be able to customize the color on the new Latitudes, but that option isn't yet on the site.

This little blurb from the customization page is kind of funny though... "Latitude’s E-Family Mainstream and Essential systems offer the choice of 25 watt and 35 watt Intel Core 2 Duo dual core processors. The PXX00 processors have 25watts for battery optimization, while the T9X00 processors have 35 watts for improved performance." Guess we should go back to the Prescott days because obviously higher power usage = better performance. I also didn't know you could possess these watt things. :p:

PCMark is same as C2D T7300. 3dMark06 is same as 8400GS.

Again, a really good candidate for you should be the Toshiba U405D. 13.3" Screen, very nice gaming performance, light notebook and cheap too.

yes i was looking at that, probably gonna get that one after all the complaints/bad news about the M1330. Only thing is, in Canada, Toshiba, HP and some other companys are doing an english/french keyboard on the laptop, so the left shift button is half the size, and left side is shift and the other part is some stupid letter. Can you get by for the first month or so without a laptop? What classes are you taking? Just wait for the Montevina refresh... longer battery life and more memory bandwidth. And with the direction Dell has been going in the past year or so, the new XPSs should be really good.

Are you gaming on it? If not, the Latitude E4300 (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop_latitude_e4300?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd) could be a good choice. 3.3 pounds, Montevina, and has an option to boot into Linux using a secondary processor, which gives you 20+ hours of battery life for web surfing and email. Sorry, I'm kind of biased towards Dell. I did computer support at a government agency for 2 summers and all the systems were Dell, so I'm very familiar with their models, website, support, deals, etc. Lenovo is good, but you can't customize them. I can't stand HP though. Their computers are by far the most bloated, I think they are ugly, their website is difficult to navigate (too dumbed down), and their model numbers make absolutely no sense.
