Saw article on this in Inq. Haven't tried it but looks interesting. (http://www.verdiem.com/edison/)

Of course you could just run WCG or Folding@Home and say screw it. :D

I say as long as the electricity is going towards something meaningful like protein research, the expenditure is worth it...though right now I'm not paying the electric bill

Ehm isn't that's CnQ and Speedstep territory? Don't we already disable those? So why even consider a software option which SLOWS your pc down lol... All the pc's in the world don't equate well to all the cars in the world you know, want to help save the environment buy an hybrid or something imho :)

link http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtmlNo, RMClock is much more powerful.

This program just lets you choose different Windows Power Schemes to use at different times/days. It's a pretty cool idea.

I don't think I'll be using it though.

This thing is rather useless... All it does is that it sets major settings for sleep, HDD and display. I'd expect at least control for CPU, USB and PCIe in it (things that Vista can also manage to make small power savings). None of these are available in Edison...
Also start-end time is limited to 12 hours. WTF!? I want to set it to start at 8:00 and end at 00:00 (midnight)...

except for my monitor shutting off...
I use no power savings... I like the full speed...

Me too. I run WCG so aside from the monitor, power settings are useless. Plus, shutting down your HDD isn't a good idea unless it's going to stay shut down for a while - get most wear and tear when spinning up.

I posted it because it seemed like a good idea and electricity prices have been going up. But hopefully the thread will still be useful since other people have responded with solutions that they like.
