I've adapted the autoexec.cfg i was using for my 8800GT to my new 4850 crossfire setup, i get about 36fps on average.

Try it out and see what you think guys!

Crysis hates my 4850s.

I get another 4 FPS when I enable the second card. It's nonsense. :down:

My average fps is hovering around 36-38 too, all settings on high, AA doesn't really make a difference. I think I already played with my config files, but I'll try this one when I get home, see if it makes a difference.

AA wont make a difference on that, simply as Parrallax Occlusion Mapping is enabled, so FSAA does bupkis.

Crysis hates my 4850's as well, but i've noticed a slight increase with the 8.8 beta's, so it could be drivers.

Okay, 45 people have viewed this thread....does anyone have any feedback?

I'm somewhat disappointed with the lack of feedback guys, so much so, i'll post you something to dribble over:

I'm gonna guess no one bothers with this game on crossfire :shrug:

I'm wondering what numbers dual 4870x2's will have.

Im getting minor frames increase running Crysis on CF, though the max FPS reported by built-in benchmark rises alot

That's Crysis 1.2.1, Vista x64 SP1, Cats 8.7

r_MultiGPU=1

apart from that I don't see any setting in that config related to multiGPU

Kai Robinson
08-10-2008, 09:20 AM
Well technically you could use it for SLI as well, or single card setups if you removed that r_multiGPU=1 line

I had tweaked it for best IQ/Gameplay possible with CF. I was getting improvements using the 8.8 beta's but they were buggy, so i'll wait for the release versions and try again.

There's something much more deep in the coding that makes SLI work well and CrossFire suck...

heres my autoconfig.cfg

and i gota say my 9600gt looks a little better on this config than your screens

your bump mapping doesnt look too good.

and for those that care, Crysis Warhead Web site is live now, it will have a world exclusive video on friday

I used the natural mod and CC lvl4 or what ever that other mod people have been using is. Benchmark wise I can score 55FPS, ingame I get say around 40-45FPS. No other tweaks done to the game. No way I could score this using 1 card never tried a single card but might give it a whirl one day.

Maybe its the hardware and the fact Sli is better.

Tried using the CCC configs, they just looked pants to me, so i went back to my original config. The Natural Mod looks good though - nighttime is clear rather than washed out.

CrossFire scales A LOT better than SLI.
80 to 100%+ scaling infact. Compare to SLI's usual maximum of 60%

Maybe its the hardware and the fact Sli is better.

While that's a well thought out, concisely expressed argument, that clearly took alot of your time and effort to come up with, comments like that can only lead to comments like this:

CrossFire scales A LOT better than SLI.
80 to 100%+ scaling infact. Compare to SLI's usual maximum of 60%

Which in turn leads to comments like the original. Which in turn lead to... Getting this yet?

So it's best off not to start it in the first place.

this is all irrelevant, if you do not include the game you are talking about, the game in question we are talking about is crysis.

Crysis doesnt scale at all well on either hardware, until you start to use much higher resolutions. the 4870 in x-fire shows a 3-5 frame increase over a single card,

and Nvidia's effort seems to be a little better, but not much

so for someone like me that games on 1400 x 900 TFT, and plays crysis as my only game, then neither hardware in x-fire or SLI is an option for me

a single gpu solution would be the answer, maybe a single 4870 or a GTX280

its all about what its for, rather than what they do, if you get my meaning

Omastar
08-16-2008, 01:49 PM
It almost makes me want to say, "Crysis scales better on 9800GX2s than it ever did with SLI", but I won't. The fact is, I realize we have a ton of SLI fanboys here, as well as their apologists.

Crysis is old news.

Good for benching, not for actual gameplay.

I like it as well. I play new maps on a regular basis from crymod.com, there are some really good ones from the intel mapping contest.

r_HDRBrightThreshold=2.75
r_HDRlevel=0.75
r_SSAO_amount=1.25
r_SSAO_darkening=0.4
e_shadows_cast_view_dist_ratio=1

roger that

enemy has a bunker, Echo 5

i gota say i love it when theres a heavy scirmish going on, and i bullet in there in a jeep, and run them down.

the look you get from your team who was fighting is pricless, you know the 'ok what now look'

for me, its my only game

my last only game was Jedi knight 2 (jedi outcast) multi-player, i plyed that for 7 years. :up:

Enemy Captured an Energy Site, Charlie 5!

I like servers that aren't full of douchebags....ie, those people that play tactically rather than just rushing the prototype facility. Warfactories and Bunkers First, secure them, and THEN go for energy sites and prototype...and never forget the entrance to proto on the ROOF of the building! :)

So - any increase in performance with the 8.9's? So far, no change for me :(

Kai Robinson
01-01-2009, 02:09 AM
Okay - i stumbled upon this - which for me, was the holy grail!

Ever had microstutter with SLI / CF? Okay, well i was getting annoyed with it, seeing the FPS showing 40, but it was playing like a slideshow.

I don't know if you guys know this, but for CF setups at least, you want the config to read:

r_multiGPU=0

Yep, set it to off. CF still works though, and the framerate increases, oddly.

You're still going to get microstutter though.

I found over at incrysis, buried in their forums, the cvar for frame rate limiting!

Limit the FPS to something you know your rig can handle, i have it set to 30fps and its smooth as butter, and to be honest, you dont NEED any higher.

Use
fixed_time_step= with the following values:

-0.024 = 42 fps
-0.0255 = 40 fps
-0.029 = 35 fps
-0.0335 = 30 fps
-0.041 = 25 fps
0 = Default

And yes, those are NEGATIVE values.

Should work for Crysis Warhead, too.

I'm playing Crysis in DX10 with an ASUS 9800 GT Ultimate with the core clocked to 820mhz. I've been thinking about getting a 4870x2 although prices haven't come down enough...

That r_multigpu=0 command really worked, thanks man. I've been struggling w/ x-fire ever since I added my second 4870. That one command made such a huge difference in smoothness of play.

I don't know about you guys but on my dual 4870x2 setup while on crysis i couldn't ever enable any AA @ 1920x1080 without sacrificing to single digit frames. So i turned AA off, but then i used the console command 'r_useedgeAA 2' and i'm not sure exactly how it does it but it turns on AA for the foliage and stuff without taking the huge hit you do when you turn it on in CCC.

My other settings were all High / Gamer, with ocean fft and sunshafts enabled (2 of the effects you can't do without from Very High / Enthusiast :D)

Kai Robinson
01-03-2009, 10:20 AM
Well dont forget, you cannot enable AA in Crysis if you have Parrallax Occlusion Mapping enabled (r_usepom=1).

It made even more of a difference to me than the r_multigpu=0 cvar - limiting the max fps to say 30 means total fluidity with all the eyecandy. You can't SEE more than 24.97fps anyway, anything more than that is for bragging rights.

It should really be clarified and stickied somewhere on a forum like this, it only comes up once every few months but it's such an extremely wrong myth that i think it warrants it.

Your Kidding me right? ok I'll agree the coding is a little weak but overall this is one of the best shooter games to come along in a long time, I can't get enough of crysis... I go through phazes with all my shooters usually I beat it and thats that. I will occasionally pull it out for a bench or what not but this game, The total concept and full real world interaction is just incredible!! Hats off to crytek and we have set the bar for all future games by this new standard!:rofl:

Razrback16
01-04-2009, 04:20 PM
I tried the fixed time step command but it actually made performance worse oddly enough. First I tried 30fps then 40fps. If I leave that command out of my autoexec completely I have better performance.

Kai Robinson
01-05-2009, 01:53 AM
Thats very strange. Made everything nice and smooth, got rid of microstutter completely. Whats your Catalyst AI set to, standard or advanced?

In any case, you might not need it due to the massive advantage of memory bandwidth over me.

Razrback16

Standard in Catalyst AI. Now this WAS in Warhead and not the original Crysis -- make a difference?

Crysis runs great on my 4870's in Crossfire using Cat 8.12 for drivers. Wish I knew how to check what the FPS were, I would post the results. Also have to love the watercooling on the cards, they never get above 40c that way. Oh I do play it in 1920X1200 on my 24" monitor.

Kai Robinson

check the framerate by opening the console and typing r_displayinfo 1 into it.
