View Full Version : Higher o/c with better HSF???

I've been able to overclock my 1ghz athlon to 1500+ on a Epox 8K3A+ with a globalwin FOP38 (with cheap replacement fan)

Currently the idle temperature is 40C and about 55C under load.

Would a better cooler allow higher overclocks? I'm kind of doubtful at this point because I don't have an overheating problem now.

Advice?

p.s. currently @ 171mhz fsb x 8.5 (turbo settings on DDR) at 1.75v

I would say yes a better HSF will definatly help with a higher OC. Try a AX-7 with a tornado fan on it

Heh just as I had said in the other thread, deffinitely!! And I would go with what Shroomer said if you don't mind the noise as it's a fairly cheap but extremely effective cooler.

Noise is a major issue for me... any advice regarding the Silverado noise controlled HSF??

Go for the Thermalright SLK-800 (best hsf out there right now) and get a high speed 80mm fan with a speed control dial, and dial in your noise tolerance level

Well I splurged and got the SLK-800 and can offer the follow after about an hour of use including SiSoft burn-in wizzard:

Preliminary tests show a 15C reduction in max load temps over the old FOP38 while running the CPU @ 1417Mhz. Time for more testing.

That is a nice temp drop. Waiting on update!
