Ok so I just got this camera and about 50% of my pics are coming out really dim or entirely black even in sunshine and light, this happens on every setting but manual and i dont use manual for quick snap shots so this is a problem. What I think is happening is that the light sensor is being covered by my hand and thinking its darker than it is (see photo)

I think that thing to the left of the lens is the light sensor?

That is the AF assist light.
The exposure sensor is in the body.
Try taking the lens cap off. :shrug::rofl:
Does it do it on the P setting too?

Yes the lens cap is off.. I knew that would be the first thing some one asked lol. What is P setting?

The P option is basically a 'point-and-shoot' setting where the camera has full control over shutter speed, aperture and ISO levels.

Oh ok um i thought that was what "Auto" was for :O but yeah it does do it on that as well.

The P is for priority auto where you can adjust the shutter speed or aperture if you want. But it will default to whatever it picks.
