Hello all, I've been benchin a bit lately and I've got some things I could contribute to the Xtremesystems team. I'm currently tweaking my cpu to try and get a higher rank for my 3dmark 03 with a 3850(9th hw rank) which is at 68,000. And I'm also picking up some old pcs with some P3's and P4s to try and get some more points. Is it possible for me to join or should I get to know you guys some more? P.S. To get this a lil more on topic. I'm trying to get 10 k more points on 03, what could I upgrade to to try to bump up the score? I was thinking of a QX6850 that I could pick up for 400 for my birthday, but I dont know how it will clock on an ACFreezer7 Pro. The Penryn is a lil too expensive ;p.

Thanks for the help.

Glad to see you joining.just go to HWBOT and sign up make your team Xtremesystems and welcome aboard. I have some experience with 3850 voltmods if your interested in them pm me. there is also a thread in extremem mods outlining the mod locations and results achieved.
Doing well in 03 is mainly gonna need higher card clocks. push your card as much as you dare then get the cpu speed up if needed. also always run 03 from a fresh boot. (IMO)

Riggshehe... that thing is a heat machine. It'll take all the volts you can throw at it and oc like mad but you'll need a better cooler on it.
Oh yeah :welcome: :D

Thanks, I've got it up to 820 on my air cooler. Which is this, http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/03/his_radeon_hd_3850_iceq_3_turbox_512mb/2s.jpg

But after that, it just keeps getting, "ATI Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" but I get no artifacts, and my temps are 50c loaded. Do voltmods help them go higher?

Thanks alot, what would you recomend for a cooler? I'm thinking about just getting a TRUE or Xig 12, and getting a lower profile northbridge heatsink, Like this (http://coolerguys.com/840556068433.html) because my DFI heat minator is kinda klunky. :P Thanks for the help, and good luck with ya'll on your benchin.

The HD3850 will scale to 1GHz on air with 1.55v or so. I slapped the HD3850s silly and killed nearly a dozen of them :D It sounds like you just need more voltage on your HD3850, the volt mod is positively easy but if you are worried about it take the card to a TV repair shop and they'll do it for cheap.

Isnt 1.55 volts real high though? 3870s are at 1.3 i thought.

you'll notice he killed a few, keep it to a nice 1.45 on water or air at 100% fan and you should get some nice clocks out of it. The high voltage runs are generally done with great cooling. just go as far as you are comfortable, then add another notch:up:.
