I'm planning a new build and I have most of my parts selected already. Haven't bought anything yet so nothings locked in yet. This will be mainly a gaming rig but will also be used for photoshop next year for school and will be running seti occasionally. I will be using the following components:
Q9450 which will be lightly overclocked around 3.2 w/ xigmatek HDT-S1283
2 4870 w/ accelero s1 coolers
2X2gb ddr3 @1333 or 1600 not sure (any thoughts?)
X-fi fatal1ty pci-e
Samsung F1 1TB & WD GP 500GB
2 DVD burners
BFG 800W PSU
Armorsuit PC-P60

I'm not too concerned with price, but I'd like to keep it as low as possible without sacrificing any performance. Something with good cooling is preferred or I would also consider aftermarket coolers, if any would fit with this setup. I'll probably be keeping this for a year or so and I don't plan on upgrading much. If anything is unclear or I did not provide, just let me know.

Thanks.

See my Sig , It handles it very well + i had 2x 4870 Radeons with S1 and it went smoothly too. Don't go for P45 Chipset , with CF it doesn't scale well [ Has it been disprooven ? ]
Or Gigabyte X48 DQ6, anything X48 mid -> high class. And you'll be happy

I like the rampage formula but its ddr2 and I'll be keeping this for a long time so I think in a year or so the extra speed of ddr3 will help with applications in the future. I'm gonna go with the the X48T-DQ6.

Kondik, I'm curious as to how you connected the crossfire cables through the s1 cooler. Could you possible post some pictures. I saw a pic of some guy who did it but he cut the fins out, is it possible to go between the fins?

DDR3 for Old Intel Platform [P35 - X48] is useless, DDR3 = Nehalem, Intel has Integrated memory controler in NB that's why is so much limited , the nehalem one will be integrated and 3 times faster , then you will use the bandwith of DDR3, now it's a great waste of money, but if you want to be in get DDR3 2000 4GB , All DDR's 3 under 2000 are kinda fast as DDR2 1200

Ask Perkam

No i pushed it through with a slight fin Accelero damage but nothing that could lower the cooling effect. There are pictures somewhere here, lazy to find them, i Sold the 2x 4870, it was a pain in the butt, the drivers eventually killed me...

Thanks for that info. Guess I'll just wait till Nehalem is released and go from there.
