I found some spare minutes ( finally ) to test some hardware, nothing extreme yet, mostly air cooling / stock cooling, but it's good for a start I think.

Currently testing a single stock cooled ( only changed the thermal paste with Arctic Silver's Ceramique ) Asus GeForce GTX 280 ( ENGTX280 ) on my reviews board ( Asus P5K3 Deluxe ).

Just found out that my GTX 280 can run various benchmarks ( including my favorite 3D Mark2001SE and AquaMark 3 ) at 771/1566/1404 ( Core: 771MHz, SPs: 1566MHz, Memory: 1404MHz [ GDDR3-2808 ] ) with the stock cooler ( room temp ~ 20C ).

Two quickies, 3D Mark2001SE Nature ( LoD +4.9 ) and AquaMark 3.

did changing the stock pads/paste for Arctic Silver's Ceramique make much of a difference ?

I can't tell for sure, as I haven't done any extensive testing in regards of core temperature before I changed the paste.
I was kinda forced to unmount the heatsink the day I received the card ( a friend of mine was going on a trip and he wanted a camera, so I had to lend him mine, but first I needed to take pictures of the card for the review ).

I'm estimating ~5C lower temps with the ceramique.

OK thanks, i've heard this need good airflow at the back of the card, not the side

This is the normal ( stock clocks ) model, not the "Asus GeForce GTX 280 Top"
