Hey guys

I had a evga 780i, which was working pretty decently until it blew yesterday, I started getting bsod's and crashes on a known stable overclock, and that was without too much voltage. However I'm sending it back and I want to get a board from one of the following

Striker II formula
780i FTW
P7N diamond

in the preferred order

my setup has

QX9650 with TT 120
GTX 280 SSC SLI
OCZ FLEX II 1150Mhz
Corsair HX1000

I will be overclocking it heavily, I can do 4ghz (1600/1800mhz fsb) on air but load temps on occt do go high, but casual computing and gaming dont make it go beyond 65c measured from real temp.I'm open to any suggestions for any other board as well. One of the issues I did have was the nb fan blowing hot air to the first card, I dont think it would have had any issues, but I wouldn't want that happening.

Also would the striker II use lesser voltage to get higher clocks on the 9650 then the evga 780i?

thanks

there is no good 780i, the best sli ddr2 is the 750i FTW, and i dont think that u will see 4ghz with reliability and sli until the 780i FTW comes out (with 8 phase poser) or unless u move to a 790i

so 750i > 780i with whats out now, and u will need a high multi and low to stock fsb when u oc if u want the board to last longer

actually the 780i FTW is available in quite some places now

http://www.evga.com/articles/420.asp

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188027&nm_mc=OTC-d3alt1me&cm_mmc=OTC-d3alt1me-_-Motherboards+-+Intel-_-EVGA-_-13188027

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3983992&Sku=E145-2040&SRCCODE=SHOPPINGDF&CMP=OTC-SHOPPING

and it has 8phase power, as I said I was able to do 4ghz OCCT stable, I was running 1600mhz QDR for 24/7 while running 3.6ghz, and 4ghz for benching.

So a 780i FTW would be a better board then the Striker II? thats where I'm also getting confused.

thanks for the prompt reply!

I disagree... I had an 11 hour Prime 95 Stable and a 10 min Linpack stable overclock with my Q6600 @ 1.384v.
A few days after the board blew and the comp starts spontaneously crashing... raising voltage all the way up to 1.44v didn't even work.

My evga 650i didn't last too long either is this fairly common with evgas?

i said better not good, none of the NV chipsets are good IMO for intel but some are better than others

and i would say go for the 780i FTW but u still will have a 90%+ chance another dead board in a few months (that chance is not based on anything exept i see about 5% 2 in 40 of peoples boards that i know with that chipset die and the 8phase should help)

So the Striker II Formula is totally out of question, its not better then the 780i FTW? could you please elaborate why your not suggesting that board

the striker 2 has some asus related problems in asus is a pain to rma with if u are not local to them non accurate max voltages, and evga looks like its a better quality board except for the single phase ddr power were asus has 2 phase (u cant use 4sticks so it wont matter much)

and the 780iFTW was made to address the dieing problems so it should be more stable, and with the reference boards u get little to no overvolting and solid rma service and thats a big deal since u will be using it

I dont think that the 750i FTW has x8 lanes at least. Not sure about refrence 750i's

No, it's common of nFarce chipsets......as a matter of fact, it's been like that since the nFarce 4 SLI IE, so we're talking 4 years now. Disregard the board's brand.

some have 8x8 but the FTW has 16x16

My MSI P7N Diamond runs 4ghz easily with an x3360. I'd love to have a qx to try in it.

thanks guys, I think I'll be going with 780i FTW the 8 phase power does lure me there, thanks for all the input!
