View Full Version : concern about dominator height

I'm planning to upgrade my memory and buy 2x 2gig sticks of corsair dominators. However, I know they are pretty tall compared to other memory. I have an asus maximus formula mobo with an ultra 120 extreme + fan, and the heatsink overlaps the first memory slot by a little bit. I'm pretty certain that a dominator definitely wouldn't fit in there. my question is whether there is a downside to putting the memory in the 2nd and 4th slot instead of the 1st and 3rd like you're supposed to. By downside I mean instability, less overclocking potential, more strain on nb, etc etc. Thanks in advance

I think that is not a issue at all. I have the same heatsink and 1st slot is occupied a bit by the clip used to attach the fan and i put the Dom's in the 2nd and 4th slot and kept them at 1127MHz 5-5-4-5 @ 2.19V for 24/7 usage.
No o/c problems whatsoever.
