Hey fellas, ive got 2 modems in my house, 2 different mac addresses, i pay for both services, ive got both of them connected to my rampage formula but they wont work together, is there anyway to make 2 cable modems work together, one is 10mb, and the other is 5mb, i would have a total of 15mb, im using Vista 64, thanks.

im not a networking expert, but i dont think it works like that. you mobo will recognize the modems as two separate physical devices but the speeds will not combine to share on you comp

I believe you'll need a router like this
http://www.xincom.com/products/502/overview.php

AFAIK Vista doesn't do any sort of load-balancing.

Does that router load balance or will it use both modems if i need the bandwidth, lets say while downloading a big file, also i need the upload to be fast as well, i do alot of SKYPE video conferences and upload helps the video to be smooth.

I think you would need 2 network cards then have to bridge them, then it it will do full load between both,
I think anyway, i was going to try that with a mobo i have with 2 gigabit network connections.

linked LAN adapters merely use one for out and one for in, currently. I use sperate machines for each connection.

cadaveca is correct. You will need special hardware to make this possible, and it does not tend to come cheap. If you had a spare box around, you might be able to roll your own cisco device to do this for you.

too bad its not as simple as dial-up where the download/upload stacked with each new modem :(

If you have "negotiate multi-link for single-link connections" turned on it might kick through each though. Just select the two NIC's and gang them.. it works or it doesnt.

Thanks man ill give that a shot, if it doesnt work then ohh well, it was an idea, wish it was as easy as hooking both of them up for plug and play, but nothing in life is easy.

Isn't there teaming software you can use?

well, AFAIK since nForce 590 chipset the nforce gigabit LAN port will team, not sure about load balancing - i presume so! In which case it'll be down to the drivers and not vista. I would be very very suprised if it didn't support it, lol

EDIT: Just noticed your using a x48, so i'm not sure on that one, but you would need a modem with 2x adsl ports at which point teaming etc would be void

Vista (and XP) doesn't do load balancing so no point bothering.

Man, Vista, costs $300 bucks and doesnt support such functions, most expensive OS out there and it wont do it, i bet a free linux will do it just fine. :shakes:

i think you need something like Nvidia drivers http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/2897/71738758de9.jpg try to look for software that works just like that

Sorry guys, teaming, combing etc of any 2 nics will NOT do what GAR is trying to do.

As other said, you need a special device. A router that supports load balancing.

It depends what you want to do. If you plan on browsing the web faster or making HTTP/FTP downloads faster, it's not going to work. But for Usenet/Torrenting, you can combine the connections.

This is the type of equipment you would need to set up what you are hoping to do:

you can load balance, but you can make them 1 15mb connection unless as said you get some serious hardware which would basically take the data and combine it when it hits your end.

and you can run the 2 modems but oinly one can be out to the internet and the other, well would be idle unless the programs you use you can specify gateways to go through.

Trying binding the connections via Wingate.
