Hi All,

Anyone hotswapped an esata drive?
And is there any danger of shorting out the connected sata port since the esata enclosure requires electricity to run, as ive shorted out a usb port on my old notebook connecting a powered usb hub.

I know on the 4pin molex its definitely not advisable

TIA

I usually connect my external esata drive while the pc is on, then power on the drive..

I really don't think it matters on esata, it's not like usb where there's power running through that connection..

still though, I usually get all my connections secure, then throw the ext drive power switch.. and windows beeps as it picks up the drive when the power is fed to the drive in the ext enclosure..

eSATA requires AHCI to hotswap. If your OS isn't set up this way, refer to this page:

thx all...i just remembered that AHCI doesnt play nice with sata ODD back when i was running onboard raid...oh well might just forgo the hotswap n use the on/off switch in the meantime, this is more for backup than anything else.
