I have a FoxConn BlackOps on the way (should be here tomorrow), and I was curious as to which 4GB DDR3 kits would be recommended for running on this board? Plan using with Q6600 and GTX-280. Any particular sticks this board really likes?

theres a list of known to work memory kits over here:

it seems samsung based sticks are easier to clock high, yet they dont run that tight latencies, unless you got some really sweet sticks...
For micron 2x2gb 1333 cas6 seems to be the way to go as its easy to get there without much tweaking, and its almost as fast as 1600 cas7 or 1800+ cas8

With your Q6600 you will be fsb limited, so you should focus on 1600 or lower memory speeds and tight timings id say, cas7 or lower, and for that micron is best :)

I expect to run the quad at around 450MHz FSB, so I am thinking 1800 will have some benefit. Has some of the pickiness of this board been sorted out?

are you sure your cpu can run 450fsb stable?
and yes, most of the memory pickyness has been sorted out, its still not plug and play, but it works with almost all mem now, you just might have to tweak it depending on the memory kit you want to use

as i said, samsung based 2gb kits tend to need less tweaking, micron is faster and can be tweaked to tighter timings.

I have run it into the 440's on my P35-T2R. Here is the kit I am looking at:

OCZ Reaper, 2x2GB, DDR3-1600, 7-7-7-24

i have both kits here and they work nicely :)
considering the second kit is 50$ cheaper and it has a 100% customer satisfaction rating id recommend you that one.

Is DDR3-2000 with a 2x2gb kit wishful thinking paired with an e8400 under water?

I have not even seen any DDR3-2000 kits for sale in 2x2GB form. That being said, I decided to go with some Reaper 1800s.....my wallet is sad....

There are a couple, but I was talking about overclocking up to DDR3-2000 from stock speeds.

mmhhhh can be done... i remember from working at cellshock that the 2gb sticks usually oc 10% worse than the 1gb sticks, keep that in mind.
other than on asus and gigabyte boards the blackops has 4 pretty good slots and not 2 good and two bad slots, so running 4x1gb is actually an interesting alternative.
you can pick the fastest 2 sticks to bench and run high speed and then throw in the other two and run a lower speed for 24/7 with 4gb.

8400 should be able to run 500fsb easy, unless its a very early crappy one :D
if you wanna go for 2x2gb sticks and push for 2ghz id recommend you samsung based sticks.
