What do you mean? You'll change change your mars nb like a blackops nb?

Interesting! :D

Have both board Hdchopper, and that is a mod to the Mars board I planned,
to use some dice on the nb

the block should fit, shamino originally planned to put the 4in1 on the mars afaik, and the holes should be the same.
the mars uses a small metal backplate thing, it should work with the 4in1 block too, so yeah, you should be able to mount the block on the mars :)

when you do so, please post some pics! :D

btw, you need the 4in1 block AND the copper base plate with heatpipes in it, otheriwse it wont fit on the mars.
just the block itself wont fit... but you can use any copper base plate to put between the nb and the 4in1 block actually, it just has to be 6mm thick roughly so the screws fit, thats it :)

Can't you just use different screws if it's a thread length issue?
Some pics would be nice.

hmmmm no, unfortunately not, the mounting system is quite different actually.
The blackops uses 2 plastic discs and screws from the bottom that enter the block on top of the board. the mars uses screws from the back as well, but they are too long for the 4in1 block, and i dont think they actually fit in the 4in1 block.

Anyways, you guys wanted pics, so i took 30mins and sat aside with a mars board and quickly mounted a 4in1 block :D

Disassembly:

1. turn the board around and squeeze the mosfet heatsink pushpin heads until they are thin enough to fit through the mobo hole again. Hold the push pins on the other side! they will jump out when you push the heads back through the mobo holes!
2. remove the screws on sb
3. remove the screws on nb, loosen each screw bit by bit, dont remove one and then start with the other, the hsf might move and damage the nb core
4. carefuly twist the nb heatsink until you can lift it up, then carefuly twist the sb heatsink until it comes off as well. Be careful not to bend the heatpipes and watch out that you dont hit the nb core with the nb heatsink.
the heatsink is now removed and you can clean the nb, sb and prepare the 4in1 block or any other heatsinks you want to mount.
5. i recommend you to remove the soft gum shim from the nb heatsink and put it on the nb, itll protect the nb core a bit when you mount the new heatsink

Assembly:

1. add some thermal paste of your favourite flavor to the nb
2. add the 4in1 copper base plate or any other 6mm thick base plate
3. add some thermal paste on top of the base plate
4. put the board on the edge of a table
5. move the 4in1 block over the base plate and drop it on top carefuly
6. pull the board over the edge of the table and hold it with one hand until you can carefuly insert one of the two screws with plastic disc and screw it in 2 or 3 turns until it doesnt fall out anymore. then use a screwdriver to screw it in some more
7. do the same thing with the second screw
8. tighten one screw after the other until they are all the way in
9. check if the block makes good contact with the nb core
10. turn the board around and tighten the screws one after the other until you feel they are tight enough to hold the block in place.
As a rule of thumb: as soon as you need the force of your upper arm or shoulder to screw it tighter, its tight enough. go as far as you can with the force of your hand and lower arm.

the block should be shipped out to you tomorrow.
i added the screws you need and the water barbs, and the copper base from a dreadnought 4in1 cooling system with the heatpipes to the nb and sb cut off.
If you can, id actually recommend you to use a 6mm strong 40x40mm copper plate to transfair the heat better, since with the heatpipes cut off and cut open the heat will only transfair from the base plate to the waterblock on the sides and not in the center where the remainds of the heatpipes are bolted on :D
Either way it should be way good enough contact for dry ice or ln2 even if it only makes contacts on the sides and not in the center.
should only make a difference of 3-10 degrees celsius i think, which isnt much when you go to -100 :D

im looking forward to your results! im curious how tight you can pull the PL with ln2 on the mars nb :D
