Will just fit in the top of my G70 case :D

Just have to make a grill now, since nobody seems to sell one for a 480 rad:rolleyes:

Nice....

I'll stick w/my PA120.3's though...FTW

Fair enough:) I'd use 2 120.3s if I had a bigger case.......

480 is in preparartion for getting a 4870X2 and cooling that and a Q6600 on one loop.

I've still got to plumb mine into my system loop. I'll be spoiling the Q6600 again, one 480 all to itself..:D

Thank you Martin , and also for all your excellent testing:clap:

1 480 for 1 Q6600- that what I call Xtreme:yepp:

BTW have you come across these fans?

SAN ACE Silent series

http://www.sanyodenki.eu/-DC-Fan-S-type-Silent-Fan-.html

Ball bearing (so good for horizontal mounting), curved blade. The ones I just got are 24 dB 60 cfm 0.09" H2O static pressure, 1650 rpm

Hehe, yeah one fan per core..

No I havn't tried one of those yet, although I expect nothing but goodness from San Ace.

.09" is pretty good, I think my quick testing on the medium speed yates was pushing around .08", so that's good.

Indeed-just. The distance between the internal edges of the 2 top horizontal rails in the G70 is 527mm and the rad is 523 mm long including the bleed screw- you won't be able to get to that but I never both using them for beeding anyway

EDIT the rad length I got from the diagram on the Feser site. Its slightly wrong! Just measured it and its 526.5mm. So will still fit but only 0.5mm clearance

I don't really have enough of a heat load to make that much difference, but I am running Yate Loon D12SL12's where the TFC is better optimized. I also like the lower pressure drop for when I start the CPU testing, it'll bleed faster that way and should allow for a little higher flow rates.

This time I'll be doing the CPU testing with a DDC 3.2 and XSPC reservoir top, so it'll be a fairly high performance CPU loop to test with.:)

No Septim. G70s are the current family's case of choice because they look plain. I like G70s because they are simple to work with, but I don't like the convoluted fan flow. I always end up reversing the fans, and actually end up replacing those very weak Lian Li fans. I like the dual PSU bays, which makes them versatile. However, its a pain with the wires unless you drill the non-removable mobo tray.

how is that mounted?

Temporarily held up on a thin bar through a pair of the slots in the drive bay assembly at one end and resting on the PSU mounting cage in the top of the case (it has one at the bottom as well which is where the PSU is) at the other end. Not for long I hope!

OK here's a quick test (but certainly not up to Martin's standards)

Q6600 @3.4Ghz, 1.30V; 8800GTX @ 650/1500/2000; mosfet and NB waterblocks

OCCT 30 mins 100% CPU

PA 120.3 with 3 S-Flex E @ 900RPM
Room temp 22 C
CPU load temp max 50/50/47/47

TFC480 with 4 San Ace @1090RPM (to my ears slightly quieter :))
Room temp 25 C
CPU load max temp 47/47/44/44

Allowing for the difference in air temp that's about a 5 deg C improvement. Also the system is not properly bled yet and I am running the pump at 2/3 of the speed used for the PA 120.3 test (to help bleeding).
So should be fine for a 4870X2 instead of the GTX:)

First I wish I hadn't cut my top panel to fit the PA120.3, now I'll need another top if I want to buy the Feser.
Good idea regarding the Silverstone 3.5" panel, I thought about cut an existing 3.5" bay cover to fit the IO bracket that came stock with the case.

I do a lot of math before buying parts. Since I could sell my G70 for a LOT of cash here in Brazil I thought: Get a new MM UFO Duality in my next trip and fit it with 3 MCR320 for cheap. I would probably save money comparing to buy a new feser 480 and new top or rad grill. :yepp:
The only problem is the space on my table and my wife complains ;)

Just get those $2.50 120mm Aluminum Grills from Performance-Pcs.com or any other site, those rad grills cover too much the fan giving an impact to the air thats coming in.

A forum member asked me to try running the 480 passively, with CPU at default and idle. So here are the results:)

Q6600 @ default, speedstep and EIST enabled, 8800GTX @ 650/1500/2000 (didn't really want to flash the BIOS back to the default), NB and Mosfet blocks. Rad fans OFF, 2 case fans (Nexus D12SL-12) ON @ 1100RPM.
Room temperature 27 C (its warm in the UK at the moment )

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3860/passivetempraturegraphssu7.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=passivetempraturegraphssu7.jpg)

So after 45 mins or so seems to level off. When I have a moment I will TRY running a stress program, but I'm not very optimistic I'll be able to run it for long!

CPU idle temps with rad fans ON are 33/35/31/31

Nice install, that's really slick and tidy in the top there, and the grill is perfect!

BTW,
I tried running mine passive as well, even with a 100W load temps were still climbing steadily after 3 hours of testing. Bottom line, passive doesn't work on any radiator, fans are essential and necessary.

Thank you Martin:)

I guess my test wan't completely passive since the rad was still in the case and the 2 case fans (which are exhausting OUT of the case) will have causes SOME airflow through the rad- hence it reached some sort of equilibrium. I presume in your test there was NO airflow whatsoever through the rad?

Yes, mine was on my test bench and there was absolutely no added air flow, only natural convection. If you had some case intake fans that would make a big difference.

I think if you built some sort of ducting system to draft air, you might be able to do it, but I don't know how you'd do that and make it look good.

I would just go with the 1000RPM fans if you want silence, heck I'm happy with 1350RPM.

Absolutely- decent quality rad fans, which you can adjust for those mad benchmarking moments, are the way to go. My San Ace fans are pretty quiet at 1100RPM :) Just did the passive test because someone asked me to !
