can I insert DDR3 RAM into DDR2 slot? would DDR3 RAM run?

DDR3 ram has same 240pin as DDR2.

yep when jedec was making specs for it there was a possibility of the two being both specified to be physically AND electrically compatible and intel would have none of that.

they still could if someone produced a PCB that was DDR2 compatible for the DDR3. Even a riser PCB.
