i know there are probly old threads out there, but fresh info is the best IMO.

okay well right now i just got a replacement DFI 680i cause my old one kciked the bucket, and this newer one is WAYYy better. it's way easier to overclock. anyways, i never really looked aroudn to see what other people are running voltage wise, but right now im currently running @ 3.6ghz 9xmulti 400mhz bus and im getting 1.440v in cpu-z. In the bios i have it set as 1.4750. My friend says dell is warranting the q6600 in their XPS machines up to 1.5 but i dunno if i want to go that high (my last cpu was a Pentium D 930 @4ghz on 1.57v and it died after like 8 months)

anything you guys know would be awsome

You're probably right around where you should be.

Moved thread to Intel Info and Support, Xtreme Overclocking is for Xtreme results.

I'd say stick with 1.45 to be on the safe side with air cooling. 1.5 for water.

i have water, also whats the max speed you would run 24/7 @ what voltage? i know 4ghz 24/7 is out of reach but i wanna hit it just to say i did.

Just a tiny bit question i got.

A friend of mine got a Q6600 G0 and hes running it at 1.59v (BIOS) and 1.53~~1.56v in windows. He got to 4.1Ghz (FSB 450) but he keeps asking me if he can raise the vcore safely

Hes being air cooled, CPU idles at 30ºC and full @ 58ºC , hes using a Zalman CNPS9700 LED, an Asus P5E3 Dx X38 1xKingston 1066 DDR3 1GB Dimm (vNB at 1.51, vSB at 1.2, vFSB at 1.3 and PLL @ 1.8.

He runs it 4002 Mhz 24/7 with absolutely no BSOD and is Memtest stable (1GB), dunno about prime, but will test it (at least he can play all day long and it wont stall)

So is this voltage safe for him or should i just tell him (like i was hopping to do someday :D) that its gonna fry real soon?

i can get 3.6ghz, max temps 65 area. 1.52volts in bios, 1.44-1.46 in windows.

too high?

The safe range for the Q6600 G0 is 1.5-1.55V after the vdrop.

I would say don't worry about the voltage, unless you go beyond 1.6v. With a quad, either your CPU will become to hot and will be unstable or your board will will not be able to handle the current. Both of these will tell you to back down. I wouldn't mind if my board liked +55C on digital PWM and ~80C loaded on the quad if it was stable at 1.6v vcore.

Good advice. Not like you're on 24/7 100% load either crunching or something.

Though you should be... ;)
