i've heard it's about 1C better than the SLK900, and it has improved motherboard compatibility. i dunno about the latter because the mounting plate looks bigger.

its pretty nice, with 92mm panfolio i get about 29C-30C idle and 43-44C full load, 3 or 4 degrees better than my SLK900U

oh, will a 120mm fit on it?

you could probably rig it on there with some zip ties or something,but the included brackets are only up to 92mm

that's pretty impressive. what exactly is different between the 2? i thought they really just revised how the fan mounted and how the HSF mounted to the motherboard.

if you read some of liquid3d's review of it he explains very well how they changed it. the base covers the entire IHS now, and the fan is a little closer to the base, the fins are connected to the base in a different way, with more seperation or something, giving better heat conduction...

like i said liquid3d's review explains it a lot better, i'll see if i can find a link to it...

ah, liquid3d has a review. found it...

so far, i've only seen reviews using Intel chips. i wonder if it does any better on AMD.

Hmm, so we have one report of a 3-4C difference, another of a 7-10C difference... :rolleyes: 10C difference? The SLK-900 was rated at overclockers as a 0.22 C/W hs; for there to be a 10C difference in load temps (assuming a 80W CPU) we would be looking at about a 0.095 C/W on the SLK-947.... which is a reduction of more than half...

Liquid3D, if you read this - are you SURE that ambients and all other settings were the same? A 7-10C difference is drastic. Even a 3-4C difference is worth writing home about, we'd have a C/W of about 0.18, a far cry below any existing hs/fan.

Sorry for being skeptical, but maybe I'll wait for Citrella to toss it on the die simulator.... :/

120mm fans fit if u turn them 45° with the 92mm mounting brackets. but keep in mind the huge dead spot from the center of the fan.

well if you havent yet changed the screws and drilled out you back plate and added nuts to your 947 and your using a 92mm toranado you might have to i did its simple i cut the corners off the back plate also now you can use the hole on the board to case screw.the connection now to cpu and back plate is so much better than what they send,its unbeleavible better.
is the 92mm panaflow what is the cfm's?
thanks

My guess is the 900 outperforms it. I mean really, why would thermalright use a design that has less compatibility and worse performance origionally. I doubt the few people that might "upgrade" to a new revision would be anywhere near enough to make it worthwhile. My guess is that it performs compairably or even sacrifices a VERY minor amount of performance in the interest of motherboard compatibility.

I just acquired one, and will be loaning it to my friend pHaestus from www.procooling.com so he can test it and give you some proper results. He will be comparing to the new Swiftech heatsink, and possibly some other Thermalright heatsinks.

i think you could try this:

->its a 120mm adapter for a original 80mm! its nice..
but im not shore if you can use it on the SLK947 without
doing some own work ::p:
