In the next few weeks / month im going to be upgrading my CPU / Motherboard so my HD 4870 no longer bottlenecks and can actualy preform :D

I have always had AMD which makes we want to stick with them. and it appears the 9850 on the stats are better. The prices are almost exactly the same. What do you guys reccomend?

The latest Q6600 batches seem to be pretty bad, some not being able to get past 3.2GHz without very high voltages. Q6600s are great, but nowadays it seems like you need to cherry pick them to get a good one.

The same could be said of Phenoms, a cherry picked one can get decent clocks, but from what I'm seeing you really need the right motherboard/CPU combo to get good clocks on a Phenom.

That probably doesn't help you much though. In reality, the Q6600 is going to be faster clock-per-clock, and it is probably more likely to clock higher. By that logic, I would suggest the Q6600, but it's not saying that the 9850BE is a bad processor.

Upgrade paths... Now, I'm not sure how often you upgrade, but going Intel with the right motherboard would allow you to go to a Penryn 45nm quad. I say this because they are supposedly going to drop significantly in price. With the right AMD motherboard you could pick up a Deneb 45nm quad whenever they launch.

In short I suggest a Q6600 if you want a quad. If you're really an AMD fan you could pick up a Phenom, it's not like you'll see a big performance hit in real world applications and games.

it dosnt matter if the new q66 wont oc its still faster clock for clock, and 3ghz is easy on any of them

u may also want the q6700 its $70 more but they oc better

i probably wont be overclocking it. and i upgrade big components about every 2 years. I still have an x2 4200 :D

but it appears you guys reccomend the Q66 so when the time comes closer ill relook at prices. thanks for help :yepp:

Id recommend you to OC a bit... At 2.4Ghz it will still limit your card in some situations, right now...not even talking about 2 years latter. An q6600 at 2.8~3.2Ghz can be stable like at stock settings in most cases.

I'm not helping you.

Cylons are meant to be fearful...you don't make a HAPPY FACE out of them !!!

Go with the 9850BE if you like AMD, go with Q6600 if you like Intel. The Intel will clock higher, the 9850BE is long term insurance for lower Intel prices

To be honest there isn't much of a real world difference between the two except for a couple of benchmarks where the Q6600 is significantly faster. Like perkam said, get whatever you like more. Consider power consumption and think about mobo costs too as that could be the deciding factor.

So your saying its a good long term investment? cause thats really what im looking for. something that will last a amount of time. as i said earlier i slowly upgrade all the parts in my system. its been over 2 years since i bought this computer still have same cpu.

I was merely joking around with that statement.

Go Intel if you are buying a rig right now and don't have the patience (or skill) to oc a 9850 to 2.8ghz...it' takes more time than ocing a 2.4ghz intel quad to 4ghz.
