No dont say that I play BF2142 alot well atm on my old rig still working on my Blackops 1.

check if all drivers are installed in device manager
use the task manager to check if some other process is running that uses your hw
disable onboard sound and check if it gets better
most likely you dont have enough memory tho, the bf series uses loads of memory as its coded not so eficiently afaik, when your using vista, then 2gb is probably not enough...
