I'm currently looking around for a new laptop. A few years ago, all the panels seemed to be TN. Is there any hope of finding better quality (*VA, IPS) displays now?

Yea I know right. Just that alone would significantly increase battery life. The only laptop that I know of that has LED backlight is a Mac.

Look at the Dell XPS laptops, both the 1530 and 1330 models. I am 100% sure they have the option for LED backlit panels.
