Just went out and bought a MS sidewinder gaming mouse today. I didnt realize the sheer volume of gaming mice out there today. But this is the first new mouse ive shopped for in like 8 years (R.I.P. To my original Razer Boomslang). Just wondering what everyone else is using?

I hate the side buttons on the G5...they feel too squishy. I like the "click" of my mx510 much better. I also prefer the texture of the 510 to that of the G5. I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure the 518 is the same as the 510 in that regard.

They 'click' by my mouse heuh? :P
And don't feel like you have to press to hard or that it is to light to press.

For games, I use an extremely worn down G5 (bought when originally released 2.5 years ago). I want to replace it, however I really want a wireless one, and nothing out there seems to do the trick yet.

Mx518.

I have 2 MX-518's. I haven't found anything I like better. I've thought about the G5 but I'm not too found of the rough grip. The mouse market seems pretty stale.

I have a G9...quite disappointed, once I realized how few benefits the mouse brought me. Sure, the tracking had no issues, but I guess something less than $70 could have done just as well (logit g3?). I got the G9 because the G7 was discontinued for the time being...now its back and I feel ripped.

I guess the G9 is comfortable, but I'd look into the deathadder or G7 for better price:feature ratios. DA for better value and G7 for wireless. The G5 is always a viable option as well. Just the $75 I paid for it made me feel disgusted when the G5v2 could have done it all for $20 less and the G7 could have done it all and be wireless for $10 less.
So if you like wide grips and are willing to spend more than $20 extra for it, go for the G9. There are going to be some things you will find disappointing.

I use a Razer Copperhead, but I don't even play games. So I guess it is kind of a waste.

the deathadder, no other mice fits my needs more perfectly, it is the perfect balance of ergonomic factors for my hand, you should try her, because I am not a MX510-fit-mice fan (MX510,MX518,G5, ....)

i was using Mx1000 lazer for a year. Then went back to optical and bought the MX518 for 15 bucks sometime last year..good little mouse, more then all i need

the G9 is nice, but a mouse is a mouse..cheaper is better

Yeah, it's a good mouse. IMO, it's better than the MX518 for gaming. I've transferred my Logitech to work, as it is more pleasant to work with than the Sidewinder. But the Sidewinder is not far from it.

What I really like about it is the very discrete red lighting at the back. Veeeery cool.

Can I join your fanboi club Chruschef? ;)

the redlight is pretty sweet.. also considering everything else on my computer is red-ish.. mah alienware case(bought it barebones.. because it's AWESOME),
glows red, mouse, red rocketfish mouse pad, red-glowing keyboard.. Doesn't get much cooler

but of course, sidewinder has like a zillion stuff and the perfect grip. :p

have the lachesis also but it really sux if ya ask me. Have a lot of problems when the mouse dont want to close a tab in firefox or when i click on a link, it dont register the clicking. Have to reclick and it is very frustrating. And boy the problems i had with it before i updated the firmware to the latest one. it really had a life of it´s own. no, my old mx 7 i think it was called. it looked like g5 and mx 510,518 but wireless was 100 times better than this razor crap i have now.

There are some issues with some Lachesis mice it seems. Mine has worked flawlessly and the extra buttons it has make gaming soooo much easier, especially in games like Crysis and Quake Wars. Had the G5 and G9 and Deathadder n Copperhead but none really compare to the Lachesis.

But hey it all depends on what shape your hands are as to what mouse feels best for that individual.

i have a razer lachesis. amazon had it for $40 for about 5 min, i was lucky enough to get during that time period.
it's basically the best mouse you can possibly own. 4000 dpi, 1000hz, long cord, cool look, rubber coating for perfect grip, this thing has everything.

Everybody likes something different. I find there are two main groups of people. Those who like the flat ergo of the Razer mice, and those who like the hump ergo of the Logitech mice. I prefer the hump myself, as it feels more natural to me.

dude, I don't care how it looks. Play with my mind!??!!?!?! that's gotta be kind of buggy, and not great for "competitive" gameplay.
