Having some big temperature problems at present so after watching temps rise to silly levels (near 90's according to core temp, speedfan and asus util's) in Prime95 or playing games, i carried out a little impulse buying

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/OcUKbasket.jpg

My first water cooled build so im expecting you to frown upon my purchases. The missus birthday is coming up so i also had a budget
. Was a choice of buying cheapish or having the Mozart TX used as my headstone :)

also got some extras;
TIM - Arctic Silver 5
AC Ryan 120mm Blackfire Fans, i've read some bad reviews with these failing quicky but mine seem to be holding up touch wood.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03280-1.jpg
2x Akasa UV 12" Cold Cathodes
A3 sheet Clear Acrylic, not sure if i should dremel a design on it or tint it
Fillport adaptor for XSPC res/pump
Another stretch of 3/8" tubing
Coils for the tubes although i see alot of you dont like them so unsure as to what i'll do with those :)

Problem #1 is going to be fitting the 240 rad in and if anyone has a picture of a 300 with a larger rad, my parcels should arrive today so will up some pictures on how that goes

Bought the 300 due to the budget and because i wanted to try modding a case, i'll be a little more at ease putting a jigsaw to a £30 over a Lian-Li :D

I do want to keep it all concealed inside the case to keep it all looking neat but may figure out some external enclosure if space is too big a problem.

Am eager to start so its all stripped out of the old case and ready for tomorrow.

Build
Asus M2N32-SLi DLX
AMD Athlon64 x2 6000+
OCZ Reaper HPC 2Gb
8800GTS waiting for OC

Um, future plans - second loop with GPU would be nice but would have to go external then, so likely option is upgrade pump and res and do it in one loop.
And a larger monitor! 19" was fine on my old desk but its slightly out of place now.

I hate waiting :(

for a £25 CPU block, quite shiney

oh and a BIOS reading of the old temperatures

and

is it ok to flush any rad with warm water ?

yea its fine to flush it with warm water, even boiling is fine, just make sure you don't handle it with ur bare hands cuz it does get hot.

where do you plan to mount the rad?

I cut out a section by the HDD bays and fits perfectly infront of the 120's, feels nice and cold pulling air through the rad, but with a system installed, wil be hot air pulled in, so got to rethink that if its too bad.

Still have to trim round with some U seal but;

cuts

Damn you did a great job doing that, lol

Paint the whole case black, so it all matches :)

Nice fit. It should get good cool air that way :)

Where is the HD gonna go?

Nice work!

Though; don't use the abbreviation LCS ... it reminds me of Thermalshake!

I cant wait to see the interior painted black - i've been meaning to do that to my 300 as well :D

Hard drive will be mounted in the usual bays but at the bottom, will need to drill some new holes but easy enough.

Having problems :( My pump seems to be sucking air through as well as water and i dont know what i can do about it

I take it feser stains clothes :shakes:

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03307-1.jpg

Clear acrylic and xspc fillport adaptor came too

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03313-1.jpg

Cut more cable management holes  couldnt cope with the existing ones.

Wont be spraying it black until i can source a rivet gun to put it all back together

Leak test atm so nothing i can really do.

Any help with the pump would be appreciated :)

Hmm how about continuously pouring fluid into the res via a long section of tubing to ensure the pump does not run dry as this will send it to the pearly gates. You might find it easier to fill and bleed when the res/pump is at an angle.

cheers for that MomijiTMO, it was looking pretty full already but considering it wasnt working right i didnt see any harm in filling it to the brim, its good enough now, cant see im going to be using this pump/res much longer anyway, already want an upgrade

like my new graphics card ?

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03314.jpg

nVidia 5500 FX ! PCI ;)

didnt want feser on my gts hah, gonna install everything today, if it was going to leak, it should've done it by now.

quick question, can i use redex (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_16 0212_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varien t__categoryId_58758_crumb_33958-31345_parentcategoryrn_58758) to get rid of the original TIM on the cpu ?

nice mess thanks to amd's thermal pad
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03318.jpg

used redex regardless with a glasses cloth, seems to have done the trick, up and running

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/temps.jpg

very tempted to lap it, idling at 22-25 C, 100% load in Prime95 for 5mins, 33 C. im more than happy :D

excuse the resoloution

the hard drive activity light makes a cool, almost lightning style flash through the res, love it. Really pleased with how tidy it is but gotta wait for UV lights now, ordered on the 29h, still not dispatched

Those AC Ryan fans at the front are too loud for my liking but got no where to put a scythe kama-meter unless i dont have a fill port from the res :brick:

D-Tek DB-1 (DD-CPX1) 12V DC Pump

Swiftech MCRES-Micro Watercooling Resevoir

What with the budget i couldn't be spending too much, the small resevoir should give me some space for a fan controller too ;)

Sounds good. I think your pump died because you said it pumped air.:(

Oh well we all learned how fragile pumps are.

lots and lots of plans but im off on holiday :)/:(

side window to cut
acrylic (tinted ;)) back on the video card just in case of a leak [http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Plastic-Online]
fit my new pump and res so i no longer have to use a linux server as my main pc, its driving me bloody crazy, what good is an OS if you cant play games on it :down::down:

anyone used the d-tek pump before?

anyone used the d-tek pump before?

I used to have one powering my old cpu only loop with a dual rad. It was quite and seemed to have the power to run it. When i added gfx i switched to a bigger better one.

Everything installed

Got some nice bue screens at first but didnt take long o fix, simply graphics card drivers.

I knew the res was a Micro Res, but its much smaller than i thought, its perfect :)

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03340.jpg

blurry :(

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03341.jpg

also replaced all those horrid nylon clips with jubilee's, more so to put my mind at ease

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03344.jpg

Still waiting on acrylic to make a base plate for the pump to sit on which will be mounted at the bottom of the HDD bays so i have the fans from the front blowing over it too then. Creates a slight vibration but easily fixable with a few rubber washers.

I think i found a contributing factor to my old temperatures :D

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03339.jpg

Ordered UV CC's on the 29th and still no sign of them so they've been cancelled :shakes:

Overclocked her straight off to 3400Mhz, no temperature change, was stable for about 2 hours, will be fine with a bit of tinkering :)

I dont think id buy a res with a pump included again, as, IMO, the pump should be low in the loop to ensure it doesnt run dry and the res should be high, i found hem being seperate much much easier

1st water cooling loop done :yepp:

nice job but why not just completely remove the bottom 3.5 cage?

articu
07-14-2008, 12:56 PM
Dont know really :) Didnt think about it, was going to have the HDD mounted vertically in there at first, which obivously isnt a clever idea blocking all airflow hah, and i like the Antec badge thats left :D

I cant be bothered if im honest now, its done, and it'll look much neater once its all sprayed black and trimmed off with rubber seals. Not going to be able to see them when the side windows on either.

hey would a mcr220 fit in there? the xpsc height is 277mm compared to the mcr220 (284mm) so it shouldn't be much of a difference but I can't really tell from the pics..
is there any room left over??

articu
07-14-2008, 11:57 PM
Would be very tight, although i left about 7mm on the bottom of the HDD cages. It was awkward to get to considering i didnt need it cut.

Theres 1mm left on the top
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03345.jpg

And about 7mm left on the bottom
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m241/Craig--26/DSC03346.jpg

Hahah, those cuts look ugly close up :ROTF:

Would be tight :yep:
