Well. I've been working on this project for about 5 months now. It originally started off as a way to silence a supermicro 1U rackmount server that had a loud blower.

I was at Fry's and I saw the Waterbox+ by Danger Den, and thought that would be a good way of silencing the box. $400 later I had the acrylic case kit and watercooling kit.

I figured I would replace the computer parts over time with better components once I had more to spend. I started selling old items on craigslist. I was amazed at what people were willing to buy, and I sold ALOT. I mean, I sold a whole sh*tton (that's metric). This is what I bought with what I sold.

I didn't really expect this to happen. I kinda got addicted to the process of selling old things, and buying new (I will detail that process later). That became a little bit of a problem. I ended up replacing all of the DangerDen stuff except the Laing pump, tubing, and a few acrylic panels. I had replaced so many acrylic panels, that I ended up with a second box. The result is that I decided to not just build the ASUS Rampage + Q6600 + Feser double loop. I decided to also build an ASUS Striker II Extreme + Q9450 + 2x280 + Feser double radiator single loop box.

What isn't illustrated in that picture is the new acrylic panel that will allow me to mount the second X-Changer on the outside of the clear acrylic box. It also doesn't show my recent changes to the right side panel that allowed me to replace the cheap swifttech radiator with an X-Changer 240. I will detail all of this later. I just wanted to put something up before I got further into the project.

Anyways... there it is.

Wow so you really made a lot of sales on craig's list huh? hmm I gotta start using that stuff and sell some of my old stuff =p.

Very cool hardware, looking forward to your build. Btw there's a project work log section now.

Lot of stuffs you got there!

Holy crap, that wouldn't fit in my room! I assume you sold more than just computer hardware.

Never used Craigslist. Other than the load of stuff you have in that picture how has that worked out for you? You can PM me if you want to go into more details.

ahahahaha..

i give you mad props for putting all that stuff on your desk only to have to take it all down a few minutes later for setup.

Looking good.

subscribed...DD build logs are too rare nowadays :D

Sa-weet! I love DD's cases. Is the waterbox on the left genuine black acrylic, or that really dark smoked colour? Either way, can we get a couple close-up shots of it? I think I'm going to rebuild my current rig into a new Torture Rack, and I want something dark...

In that case, maybe I should actually try to put a worklog together this time around...

what kind of stuff were you selling on craigslist? I haven't tried it.

yeah interested in what stuff you sold off that you could complete 2 new water cooled rigs...

very nice stuff you bought with it too. please show us some more pics of those 2 cases...

I sold alot of things including old rackmount UPS, a broken LCD TV, all my DJ gear (turntables/records/mixer), etc etc

Yes. Danger Den was very nice to offer me all sorts of custom work, including true black acrylic. You might have noticed that I cut 'exploit.org', my domain, into the sides of both.

Just put up everything you have. You will be surprised at what people want to buy. I was very patient. For example, I put up 2 of my Apple cinema displays, and after 2 months they both sold one day after the next for my asking price.

So, I am testing the new D-Tek GFX blocks and also the cooling potential of the Feser X-Changer 240. See my thread on the blocks @ http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=194037

I've put 2 D-Tek GFX blocks on nVidia 280 GPUs, adapters on the ASUS Striker II Extreme NB assembly, and my D-Tek CPU block all on a single loop with 1 Feser X-Changer 240. I plan on testing the difference between 1 X-Changer 240, and 2 of them in the loop. (My replacing side panel [for the other side] will be here tomorrow and I will mount the other Feser on the outside at that time)

EDIT: The tubing is temporary, until I know what I need for the second radiator.

http://pix.exploit.org/project.hedonism/s2etest.png (http://pix.exploit.org/project.hedonism/s2etest.jpg)

I had to drill out the holes on the Danger Den custom cut acrylic side panel because I had it originally cut for a radiator with 15mm hole spacing.

http://pix.exploit.org/project.hedonism/dremel.png (http://pix.exploit.org/project.hedonism/dremel.jpg)

I used a dremel to make the existing holes bigger by about 2mm each. The increase allowed me to mount the Feser X-Changer radiator on the panel without having a new one cut. (Hard to justify cutting another side panel with exploit.org in the side when I could dremel it out myself) I just had to make sure to tape up the holes an drill slowly, because if I went to fast it would have melted the acrylic around the hole.

you might wanna try what I did and give debbi a call over @ dd and get a custom side panel made,

Yeah, the guys over at DD are really cool. They're located about two hours up the road from where I live and make appearances at all the major LAN parties in the region and are all, you know... cool and stuff. I dunno if it's accurate or not, but I like to think that they now sell those Bulgin switches & tails on the site because I kept bugging Jeremy about it at PDXLAN 10 :D

Needless to day, there's a lot of DD equipment in use around here (both standard and--probably more common--custom); I plan to join those ranks ASAP!

For this box, I mounted the radiator on the side of the box. I have a little more work to do to this box before I can put the lid on and set it aside for now. I can at least play AoC again.

http://pix.exploit.org/project.hedonism/lowloops.png (http://pix.exploit.org/project.hedonism/lowloops.jpg)

The only problem with this loop setup is that the loops have to be really low to fit in this box. I didn't realize it, but using the DTek GPU blocks aren't a good idea in a DangerDen waterbox, due to the height requirements. I will post some better pix tonight, but the loops are a little flat at their highest points.

I may redo the loop and not put a lid on the box, but so far I am happy with the cooling results of this loop. My NB stays < 30, my CPU < 40, my GPU < 40. I will eventually post accurate temps.
