hi i have a 620 corsair psu, when i turn on my computer it sometimes does not come on or will come on and suddenly power off within 10 seconds. after this it will not even attempt to start. this is sometimes resolved by turning off the computer at the wall and leaving it for 24 hours.

any help or suggestions would be grand

there is 12.1v onn the 12v line

system:

raided hdd x2
ga p35 ds4
8800gts 512
intel E8400
2gb dominator ram
dvd rw
fdd
5 fans

things i have checked

all the connections in the case
no shorting on case
stable components (no overclock)

if you have another motherboard, try the PSU on that, and make sure its not the motherboard or the motherboard connector

What specific memory do you have? And, what voltage have you set for it in the bios?

Can you list your complete system spex? And, are you using a UPS?

When you say you verified no shorting on the case, did you actually boot and run the system with the MOBO totally outside the case? You can use the MOBO box as a good non-conductive surface and sit the MOBO on it. Try booting with the minimum amount of hardware needed to run the OS: MOBO, CPU, 1 memory module, video card, and HD with the OS on it.

Problems like this can be hard to diagnose. Did you also check the connections for your case power switch?

i checked that the power button connection on the motherboard was firmly connected, i checked for shorts by inspection, i will try taking the whole thing out.

i have removed everything bar the video card and 1 stick of ram to see if i can get it to boot, to no avail. the usb is getting power as the light on my mouse turns on, a very strange problem, its like a car with a flat battery!

btw the problem is getting worse, it refuses to boot anytime now.

thanks for your continued help.

thanks for your continued help. Do you have access to another known working system so you could test the components? Or do you have a competent local PC shop to help with some bench testing?

I'll go ahead and say, if you believe it is your PSU, we will replace it for you. Use THIS LINK (http://www.corsair.com/helpdesk/default.aspx)to begin your RMA if you choose that route.

I won't need the case number. Other than an individual reading and updating your case, it's pretty much automated. If you are asked about troubleshooting, link them to this thread in the comments section. Good luck, I hope this solves the issue.

try never to use extension cords really bad habit same goes for battery chargers on extension cords the longer thay are the more drop in amps

I had the same problem. If my PC posted, it'll lock up right away. Then it won't post (fans will spin, but no post). I had to leave it unplug before it would post again. I decide to plug everything outside the case (to rule out case shorting). No go, same result.

Turned out to be the motherboard (eVGA 650i Ultra). RMA'd it, got another one, and presto. Worked fine.

2 bad psu's?

there must be a cause, my computer is killing them somehow

i would have to be very unlucky to get two bad psu's!

well, it's just a thought, but like has been said, if you can check your motherboard...could be a bad circuit/contact on the mobo. ive certainly had bad circuits on one particular motherboard ive had.

m/board seems to be the common element/most likely cause, but ya cant be 100% certain until youve isolated all the other components...

ive gone into my local pc store to verify whether a certain part was dead or not. last time it was a grfx card which i hoped id killed (because i wanted an excuse to buy another one :D) and they just stuck it in another machine they had there to check. ie they have stacks of pc's they can check the hardware with....might not be that easy, but just a thought.
in my case it was just a corrupted windows install...but your problem is h/ware related.
