View Full Version : watercooling the 4870 cheap 'n easy

i've never seen the cooler of the 4870 dissected, so i wonder if it's kinda like the 1950 or 3870. those have separate ram-coolers that can stay on the card if you mount a waterblock. so i could just mount my good ole block and im ready to go.

or is that new GDDR5 running cool enough, so that it doesnt need extra cooling?

I'm interested as well, subscribed...

As it seems there are no way to put my MCW60 on GTX 280, I'm looking towards Radeon HD 4870. But the issue with RAM and VRM cooling is still open...

The guy there wanted to keep the part of original cooler, but that idea didn't seem to work well, temps are high... As I understood, he resigned using the cover and switched to ramsinks...
