some questions about the blackops

hello all, first post here.
i am thinking of changing my MB my 680i has started playing up again and it has just frecked me off for the last time.
so i am thinking of getting one of the blackops mb
some questions

how well does it handle a q6600, will it clock it well or should i look at upgrading my cpu i, i can get my hands on a qx6850 how well will it clock on this MB or should i go for one of the newer 45nm processors, if so which one

will my d-tek fuzion fit it ok

have read that the top of the NB waterblock is aluminum is this still so, is the rest of the block copper and if the top is aluminum can you buy a different one for it

what would be the best memory for me if i am using the q6600/qx6850, of if i got for a new chip what would be best for it. really want to get the memory right this time as i had a lot of trouble getting the 680i sorted memory wise

The rest of the NB block appears to be copper, I haven't seen a replacement top though. D-Tek FuZion should fit easily. What amount of memory; 2x1 or 2x2 or something different entirely?

Here in Denmark we never have problems mixing Alu and Copper.
Just use anti corrosive.

The blackops normaly clocks about 100 Mhz more than other boards because of the evil PWM.
What PSU do you have ?

If you can afford a QX9650 go for it.
If Not the QX6850 will rock 2 :D

Jimandy, id recommend you to get the 6850 if its for a good price and hasnt been mistreated too much :D the high vcore options on this board will def be a nice fit for a 65nm multi unlocked quad when your benching :D

then again, depending on the price you might as well go 45nm, better fsb, better clocks, lower power, more cache=better perf per clock. no big differences in each field, but it all ads up.

Well... if you want a quad, go for the 6850, otherwise youd need a 9650 and those are damn expensive... if you have the money, go for it :D

otherwise id actually ecommend to go for a 45nm dualcore.
the 45nm quads are all multi limited, while for the dualcores you can get a 45nm 9.5 multi 7200 for a fraction of the cost of a quad, and in most games and in windows a dual will do just as fine as a quad.

if you want to bench or def want or need a quad for something other then benching, then get the qx6850, but for gaming and daily use id recommend you a 7200 or 7300 which is way cheap... for the same money of a quad you can buy several 7200s or 7300s and keep the best and sell the other ones at a small loss, but still end up with a really sweet chip for a good price :D

I mailed MIPS as well as EK about that, and they confirmed having nothing for Foxconn, nothing planned either. Only EK told me that some of their blocks might fit...


about the alu used by Foxconn on their stock cooler, doesn't matter as long as the inside is copper, so as long as the coolant doesn't get in touch with both metals.

the top of the waterblock is alu, but its anodized, so the alu doesnt touch coolant.
but even if it would, from my experience and what many people told me, as long as you use a water additive to stop the corrosion there wont be any problems.
the metals will corrode slowly, but it will take years or decades until it corrodes so much that you end up with a leak :D

But if not does Chilled PC ship to the U.S.. I really dont want to use the stock top because well my fittings dont fit.

With toms top you can use the stock waterblock screws for the job.

@Saaya I use Koolance (part# NZL-V10KGL) compression fittings and the counterbore in the stock top does not provide a good seal between the 2. Cool clone38 they listed on ChilledPC yet?

yeah i know, i ran into the same problem :D
use extra seal rings, or use the fittings provided with the board, they work great :)
