I went to run HDTune 2.55 on my VR (VelociRaptor) drive but my system hung. I had to do a hard reset but this only exacerbated the problem. HDTune hung again so I ran WD Diagnostics to scan for any bad sectors. It found one bad sector and flagged it. The problem is that HDTune still hangs whenever I do a scan. Strangely, XP's error checking doesn't. I'm concerned the drive may have an irreparable error and be permanently damaged in that one area. I'm also concerned if I RMA the drive to WD they'll return it saying the drive is fine.

Any suggestions?

P.S. The drive is partitioned 100GB/56GB NTFS

I have 2 x Velociraptor on Adaptec 2405 RAID0 32k stripe 100Gb slice.
No problem with HD Tune error scan...

RMA it :yepp:

edit: actually, give it a decent format, remove the partition, then do another error check - if it still says its got one, contact WD

I tried the Pro (evaluation version) and it doesn't lock up like 2.55.

I actually zero-filled the drive, deleted the partition and reformatted but it did the same thing.

I'm going to keep at this to see what I can come up with.
