Are they compatible without any mods to the mobo ?

I am about to get the OCZ Vendetta 2 because my stock Intel HSF sucks , my temps are 70 C load

EDIT : Maybe this thread should go to Intel forum !

You know I don't aircool so I have not got the vendetta 2. I will ping Rydee or Nico today to see if they can measure theirs for you.

I can't see there being an issue though

Looking forward to the answer and thank you for your help

This is my first ever non stock cooler and I have to be 100% sure :D

I am also worried about my case being too small but if the V2 didn't fit with the case I might consider a bigger case like the Gigabyte Aurora 570 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233012)

cool, so it does fit :D
minaelromany, would be cool if you could post some pics and maybe a few hints about mounting this heatsink on the blackops.
would be useful for other guys getting this heatsink :)

It is MARS (P35) , not Blackops (X48) :D

I already made my brother order me one from Ebay for 50$ and he will get it here in Egypt on July 30th

It is nice to see it fits but I am very worried about the case :( although I leave it open
It is very small and I hate to pay 150$ for a case specially that I'll make my brother get my an ATI HD4870 for 300$ which in turn would need a 200
$ PSU :shocked:

I hope my temps would go down "considerably" because the Q6600 idles @ 66C and loads @75+C

I've also ordered some AC MX-2

EDIT : I know that OCZ V2 and Zigmatek S1283 are typical , but IIRC , OCZ uses push pins not screws , is this a problem ?

push pins really do work ... but for most overclock nuts (like me:)) really prefer bolt kits better pressure = better temps every 1*c helps

thermal right sells a nice cpu bolt through kit for $6.oo usd

gotta be hot thier ! good luck

wee, at those load temps the cpu is throttling for sure! you really need a better heatsink :D
have fun with that 4870, when you get it make sure you flash the bios of the card or use the fanspeed fix, those cards get VERY hot :D

Offtopic:
Anybody tried to use a OCZ memory cooler? Does it fit? I'm planning to buy though or any recommendations?

i think it wont fit unless you mod it...
if you have a short videocard then it might, but with longer ones the memory slots are blocked by the card... :/

So it's a no. :(
Maybe this will help.

hmmmmm it might fit if you remove the screw on the end of the ocz memory fan thing...
i think it will... lets ask tony, the dimensions of mars and blackops are almost the same, so maybe he can give it a try :D

thanks :)
unfortunately i dont think it will fit by default, BUT im sure it can fit when you mod it...
the only thing causing a problem is the screw on the side... if it can be cut or removed or replaced somehow for a shorter screw, then it should fit just fine. even with the screw it might fit but youd have to insulate it so it doesnt short the videocard, and it would probabaly bend the back of the videocard a bit... just be careful and dont force it if it doesnt fit.

Ok, thanks saaya. Maybe there are little screws that can fit with the cooler so i'll just have to replace them. :D

im pretty sure thats possible :)

Yes use screw (cdrom fixing)

Heres mine modded, a bit dusty, but I still put insulation (3mm armaflex) as it is to close for comfort against the graphics card:

Nice blindfitter! You are also the man! :D

I thought about is also but not sure if it really fits but you're my hero blindfitter!

Another OT:

Sorry for posting it here, what thermal paste/grease do you use to your mobo?

saaya
07-15-2008, 12:00 AM
you mean what the stock thermal compound is?
no idea, and the engineers dont know either since it all gets assembled in china... but im sure its some very basic silicon thermal compound.
it gets the job done but it certainly isnt arctic silver 5 :D
