I noticed these, and they were much cheaper than the wc'ed ones. I also heard that they were practically useless because they cant get the heat out fast enough. was thinking mcw4000 with like a tornado 92, 80 mm on top or something. what kind of temp am i looking at?

THey work fine if you can stand the noise. Swiftech has one as a pelt heatsink combo. Stay away from the thermaltake's they are junk.

The only way to air cool a pelt on your CPU would like be with an SLK-900 and a 92MM tornado full blast and that still woulden't be that great...

There's a blocke called Prometheus vrzone.com/forums who's air cooling his swifty pelt and getting quite nice temps.
The way to it is to use 120mm90CFM DELTA on lower speeds to get required air flow and avoid gettin deaf :p:
Oh, one more thing, make sure you duct this monster to outside air and provide sufficien extract at the top of your case (pref. same delta)

get a swiftech waterblock with 226W tec mounted on it.

you need heavvy tecs to cool a cpu, and those tecs are too powerfull to be cooled by a normal cpu hsf.

the only tec/aircooled cpu combo ive seen was a taiwaneese guy who stuck 6 black alpha heatsinks together to cool a 227W tec ;)

Aircooling big tecs is unfeasible yes, impossible no. The pictures show a 172watt tec @ 24.6v (vmax) cooled by 2x380cfm fans.

Ive posted these pictures maybe 50times on different forums, this was done last summer as proof it can be done, although you really shouldnt.

By all means you could strap it to your cpu if you want, and the temps would almost certainly be sub ambient, maybe even 15c or so, but personally i wouldnt bother.

well.. i was thinking the mcx4000 with a 120mm ystech 125 cfm, sound makes no difference to me. It just costs too much for WC'ing.. I dont need it to be REALLY cold, its just for my nb and my gpu. BTW.. for air, will i need condensation protection?

aircooled tecs wont really cool your cpu to condensaion temps...

Thats a bit specualtive, depends on too many factors to say that. I could easily soak or freeze a processor with an aircooled tec...

the question is, would that setup work? i just want some decent cooling on a nb and a gpu...

Aircooling on a nb should be easy, and gpu shouldnt be too bad. So go for it!

like what cpu? a P3? :D

it IS possible, but not worth it.

i just want to know, how many c's could i get out of a 125cfm fan w/ a mcx4000 or 462 pelt on a gpu.

i decided to go with a simple wc'ing set up with a mcw50-t, like with a standard BIX + 125 cfm fan, hydor l20, etc, etc, etc, nothing too special, but enough to get the job done.

Those big swifty heatsinks with the pelts stuck to them work decent with a tornado.

Anyone see the new XP-120 heatsinks would those be able to handle a TEC i got one with a 95cfm fan and its pretty good cooling I'm just wondering could it handle a 169W TEC I'm not looking for extreme cooling just something to help it stay pretty close to room temp. It's a A64 3000+ @ 2.6ghz

i heard about that heatsink... its supposed to be able to cool 300W

so still a no-go with a 227W tec, but might be perfect for a 172W tec.

I'm just curious my heatsink deplaces just as much heat as a waterblock.
