Thanks to all for the tips and comments regarding my first poorly done attempts at HDR http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=191789.
I guess I'm still a bit confused as to what HDR is meant to look like. Some HDR examples I've seen have gone to the exaggerated painting like approach, while other folks have stated it shouldn't be done that way and should natural. User preference perhaps ?
Anyway started a new thread as the other one was pretty loaded with lots of large images :)
I took these 3 photos 6M res JPEGs, 0ev (http://fileshosts.com/dslr/pentax/photos/hdr/corner_fence/IMGP4357_tn.jpg), -2ev (http://fileshosts.com/dslr/pentax/photos/hdr/corner_fence/IMGP4358_tn.jpg), +2ev (http://fileshosts.com/dslr/pentax/photos/hdr/corner_fence/IMGP4359_tn.jpg) and tried again, this time I went close to the natural look I think ?
