check out the NB heatsink in this Pic. http://www.systemcooling.com/images/reviews/Heatsinks/Swiftech_MCX462-V/Image12big.jpg

it's not on swiftechs website, but it's definatly swiftech :)

Both are cool

Look in the bottom right, you see what looks like a fan with SC on it. Now look in the top right corner of that fand where it is transparent and you can see thru it.

2 mem slots, 1 stick installed

I tried to break down the pic too when I saw it, to figure out what CPU was under there.
if you look and se the white triangular clip it's shaped in a triangle like the Xeonsocket, but it's also got the 2 hole pattern like a Operton mounting system.
I can't seem to figure out what that board is :)

but it has 3 mem slots.
look at the lower corner.

lower corner is AGP slot

look at the memory clip things that are at the ends of the slots. In the lower left you see 1 closed because its holding mem and you see 2 open...

yep ;)

the NB heatsink seems great, and it'll also perform a lot better then that wussie zalman NB heatsink

it's hard to tell what motherboard that is from the pic, but i bet it's a Nforce2 or KTxxx setup.

the MCX462-V mounts using 3 pronged clips.

also, the fan you guys are talking about is the "systemcooling" logo. notice how the whole thing(not just the corner) slightly transparent. ;)

looks like it's on the swiftech website now.

http://www.swiftnets.com/products/MCX159.asp#

it's suggested retail price is more than most CPU HSFs though. :(

I am getting one soon :)

there is a thread in the AMD section and someone claims that a TEC version may be coming soon.

it's an Asus A7N8X :)

if you look on the earlier pages, you'll see the previous heatsink on the NB, and that's the Asus one

it looked like an Asus, but the little white header by the speaker plugs looked odd. and doesn't the A7N8X have audio plugs down there where the 2nd serial port is? it looks like there is a serial port there.

*edit* the orientation on the mounting screws is also different.

Our test system is comprised of the Athlon XP-2800+ CPU, a hot running AMD CPU. Two sticks (256M each) or 512 Mbytes of Corsair XMS PC3500 DDR memory on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2.0 motherboard housed in a cooling friendly "Cooler Master ATC-201 aluminum case with four 80mm fans that produce 28 CFM's each.

the chipset fan looks damn nice, but I spoke with AMD about the MCX462-V and they claimed that it was a dangerous heatsink, swiftechs response to why they didn't use the 4 mounting hole system was that AMD had removed it from their specifications. (that means sod all, thermalright still used the 4 mounting hole system on their SLK900u)

the response from AMD regarding this matter:

as far as I can recall we never specified the motherboard to have 4 mounting holes for mounting a socket for the heatsink (Intel does as far as I know). The point I want to make here is that we never had to specify this as we had other requirements like the maximum weight of the heatsink and the thermal conductivity and air flow and for this you do not necessary need to mount the heatsink to the motherboard itself or the chassis.

Coolers should not get heavier and heavier, they should get more efficient (therefore we specify cooler guidelines).
The cooler showing on the page you sent me the link to is definitely not recommended as it is much too heavy and the mounting mechanism does not look good to me.

Please have a look at our recommended heatsink list:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors...69_4348,00.html

I hope this clarifies.

Kind regards

I know you guys here are a bit more extreme when it comes to cooling, but, if you're using a 4 hole mounting system, it's not going to damage the socket with so much weight being put on those 3 plastic lugs... nearly 600g is a hell of a lot :slobber:

EQuito, that is the motherboard that they used in all of the other pictures. if you look at the one in the last pic, it's not an A7N8X at all. the orienatation of the mounting pins for the northbridge HSF is wrong.

not that it matters anyway.

and i agree with bigZ, that is way to heavy of a HSF to be using the plastic tabs.

speaking of bigZ, WELCOME TO XTREME!!!

Yea, I have an swlk-900U, and if I recall right it's like 1.5 pounds, and i don't trust that hanging off six peices of plastic, If nothing else I'd think it'd bend the socket some.

Epox use that connector on their boards, but it doesn't look much like an epox either... wrong color... but it's entirely possible that it's an old board in use just for photo purposes...

I have one (MCX159-A) on my nForce2 Ultra 400, it cools nice. 35C full load. :)

Will the chipset cooler fit on an ABIT NF7-S v2.0? The holes on the original chipset cooler are in the middle, i'm confused.

*EDIT* NM, it say's on Swiftechs website that it is :toast:

They put that logo on pics of every review. :)

OK here is a question. Will this awesome N/B cooler fit beside an SLK-800U on an NF7-S? The SLK almost looks to be overhanging the N/B. Anyone try this combo yet?

That setup doesn't look like my board to me. Never seen a fan up by the RAM before.

Hmmm a lot closer but still nothing that needs a fan up by the RAM slots.

hasn't someone already said that the fan up by the RAM is the system cooling logo. I mean look here http://www.systemcooling.com/

Ah.minor details in the photo. I see this now. When it was mentioned it was transparent, I was thinking seethrough fan not an image that was an overlay LOL DOH!!!

I'm getting one know to make up for my oversight in stupidity.

Oh ya I saw that part but was confused by the SC fan. Stupid website logos on photos should be a watermark over the entire thing and not in a corner using a shot that isn't thiers anyway as it is from Swiftechs mainsite! Grrrrr...

Oh wells. Hey just proves that even at 35 with years of PC history you still can make stupid oversights and judgement errors.
But have the money to pay off the jury now :D :toast:
