looking for something just like this specs:

-13 to 14 inch monitor ( dont care if it is led based or not)
-vga: what ever ( I dont game)
-ram: 512 megs or more ( expandable to 4 gigs).
-cpu: a dc that performs decently for divx, mp3, websurf and crunch
-hdd:>20 gigs
-battery that will last >2hours and has some cheap replacement
-unexpensive and relatively lightweight ( less than 2 kg)
-OS: any

I had not been very exigent. wind, asp one and eeepc are very small.

for 14", check out the asus f8sn-c1
for 13", i just customized a dell m1330 for my ex and we got a t9600/4gb/320gb/8400mgs (all that's available), for onlt $1500. I see you are located in L.A., so I'm not sure about this one. We had to use a coupon code that gets you 25% off of anything that costs $1,599.00+. There is also a coupon code for $1,299.00+.

I think 13" laptops are just too small! so, personally, I'd go with the f8sn-c1.

lovely post !!! I would not give the ex such a lappie :P $1300 is lotsa dough , has more than I need and cant spend tha much... I need something basic, reliable, upgradeable ( will buy it with 1 gig and upgrade it someday to 4 gigs) and cheap

might go with the 14 inches route

LA is latin america and is a real pain in the ass.. techie stuff is incredibly overpriced and having a lappie is considered a luxury :embarrassed:

get a mac

my religion tells me not to pay for something I cant touch ( IE software , music, OSs,etc)
