View Full Version : x48 versus 790i efficiency - which platform makes best use of the MHz?

I was wondering if anyone has done a decent independent apple to apples comparison of the 790i and x48 platforms to see which chipset is more efficient? I'm wondering if Nvidia have gotten better at making use of cpu cycles in comparison to the 680i days? While it's fair to say that the 790i can push DDR3 further than the x48 does this mean it's any faster in benchmarks than a x48 running slightly slower? At the same cpu speeds/FSB/Memory settings which board comes out in front?

Cheers

John

If someone hasn't done this by tonight I can do this for you Johnny.

I have clean Server 2008 installs for MSI 790i and MSI X48C and will run with a stock E8400.

What tests do you want matey? :)

Fire it up R1ch - a mix of2D and 3D would be good something like:

SuperPi 1M and 32M
PiFast
WPrime 32M and 1024M

3DMark01
AM3

Also maybe an EVEREST screenshot of the bandwidth numbers?

clock for clock the x48 should win, but the 790i clocks ram higher since it has slightly more internal latency from having the unlinked system

so if they are at the same the x48 will win
