The case is actually a rebranded Lian Li that i got from Microcenter for $120 a few months back.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0218.jpg
I assume that PowerSpec got to rebrand these because of Lian Li factory defects... here you can see some marks on the mobo tray. no biggie.

While waiting on everything else to come, i started cutting the case. Here's where the first cuts will be made. This cut will open up a lot of area for cables to be routed/hidden

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0228.jpg
After initial cut, but not finished... You can see the minor scratches on the rack that i made while filing :\

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0238.jpg
Not too bad, could use more filing... damn scratches

Well, that's it for now. Next updates when the rest of the parts arrive!
Stay tuned, lots more to come!

great idea on buying the psu extender and just sleeving that, thinking i'l be giving that a go myself:up:

Yeah, it was an idea from a member on hardforum... ive seen a few people do it here too.

Ive actually completed the sleeving, and got the rest of my parts in, however my camera was hijacked (temporarily)... Ill probably find another camera soon

Im in the process of cutting the opening for the rad.

The 3/8" tubing has proven too small for the 1/2" barbs. I didnt try heating with hot water however. I had to order some barbs for the pump and some more sleeving, so i just went ahead and bought some 7/16" Tygon.

Expecting a completion date sometime next week.

I have finally decided on my loop setup.

Although my initial loop will not be the most optimal, it will work best with my intended final loop.

My final loop intension is when I add the GPU block, to add a 120.1 radiator to the fan slot at the rear of the case. Potentially a NB block too

Initial loop: Res -> Pump -> CPU -> 240 Rad
Final Loop: Res -> Pump -> 120 Rad -> CPU -> GPU -> 240 Rad

The final loop will be whenver a worthy block comes out for the ATi 4870. How long do you expect a block to come out for the 4870 once its released? (that is, if a different block doesnt already work) I am speaking of course about a full coverage block, not one that covers just GPU.

How did you cut the top? More detailed pics please :) (I'm going the same route)
Sorry, i didnt take a bunch of pics during the process as i planned, I didnt have my camera at the time

I cut the top with a Dremel and Reinforced Cutting Disks (dont skimp out on the disks... other cutting disks will break very often -- ie. flying shrapnel). I used about 2 disks total (none broke, just got too small to use)

I used the template provided with the AC Ryan Radgrill.

The cutting was fairly easy, mostly due to the soft nature of aluminum. Cutting ON the lines of the template, otherwise youll be able to see edge of your cut when the grill is installed. As everyone says, go slow, let the dremel do the work. Dont apply too much pressure either.

My method for cutting a line was to lightly cut into the metal for the wholbre length of the cut, then going over it multiple time until i completely cut through. Dont try to get your dremel through the metal, then move it down the line. Youll loose a lot of control of your cut, and not to mention break a lot of disks and put a ton of stress on your Dremel.

Also, i cant stress this enough, make sure the holes on the rad fit the ones on the rad grill before using the radgrill's template for screw holes! I made this mistake, and realized that 4 (one fan's worth) of holes were about 1mm too far away. I had already drilled the holes in the case, and had to enlarge them. (not a biggy because they are covered by the grill anyway).

Hope this helps

ty.

well i bought 50ft of 1/8" for sleeving 2 ATX extenders (a good amt left over), and the crappy crappy sleeving kit, that had 10ft of 1/8", 1/4", and 5ft of 1/2" and 1".

the heatshrink that came withe kit was 9mm, 20mm, and 25mm... the poor quality 9mm doesnt shrink well over 1/8" X_X. I used 1/8" shrink on the atx extender

Good news is the HDD (EX-23N) expansion bay came in (pics below)

Bad news is... I really jumped the gun on buying it because I realized a (very very obvious) way to mount the hard drives.

I'll explain the rest w/ pics+captions:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0400.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0404.jpg
sorry for the nasty flash
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0403.jpg
my initial concern with the EX-23N is that it was going to be too long for my likings

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0406.jpg
i was right -- i dont really like how it sticks out into the center of the case. I am going for a really clean look here.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0405.jpg
But it matches perfectly with the rest of the mesh.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0407.jpg
OK, heres the easier method i realized WHILE trying out the EX23. Just turn the one of the original HDD cages 90 degrees....
Note: the EX23 helps keep the hose on the outlet of the pump from kinking; kinda neat

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0408.jpg
 DUH
Im thinkin a nice piece of alum between the res and the cage will give a really clean look

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0410.jpg
I dont completely regret ordering it... I bet i can do something nice with just the front piece of the bay. Here it could cover up the PSU and wires coming out of it ^^ Just an idea, but i like... :)

=======================================

Ok so i have 2 ways i could potentially mount my drives, not too sure which way im going to take. Most likely going to use the original cage, and 'stealth' it with some pieces of aluminum.

Gimmy some feedback XS!

I used 1/8" sleeving w/ 1/8" shrink. The shrink was a bit small, and i had to stretch it bit to get it on.

Its not extremely time consuming, you'd be surprised. I suggest cutting all sleeving/shrink beforehand.

im actually also cutting my top panel right now (also aluminum) using a dremel and the reinforced cutting wheel. except it's taking me ages.. what rpm did you run at when cutting? maybe im not putting enough force. at this rate ill be done by tomorrow morning..
i would run around 7-9. shouldnt take too long to get through the metal...

i did all my sleeving on the molex and sata connectors but i cant for the life of me get the pins out of the 24pin atx connector.. i have the sunbeam tool kit which includes tools just like you showed earlier but i cant get them out..

any tips on how you got the pins ouf of the 24pin atx connector??

thanks
CCC
oh man.. i was so confused when i first tried this too. the tool you want to use looks like the bottom one in this pic.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/IMG_0261.jpg

ok, so from the front of the connector, get both of the tool's tips between the edges of the metal pin and plastic housing. give it a little push, youll feel the pin move back... almost a click.
make sure one of the tips isnt inside the pin.

youll see when you get the pins out, that you are just folding two 'wings' on the pin that prevent it from coming out the back.

try googling it, there are probably some good guides/pics

to dim the LED's. they were WAY too bright (it hurt to look at them).

I just wanted a color indication that a channel was on... not a spotlight!

I used used a good ol' sanding block and elbow grease. Started @ 1000 grit, then 1500, then 2000. Then use a good rubbing/polishing compound. I used 3M rubbing compound. It takes quite a bit of time, but worth the effort in the end.

i know i know. I will be getting EK full cover for the 4870 when it becomes widely available, as it seems to be the best way to keep the vregs cool.

When i do that ill be needing to add some more radiator... basically going to be redoing the full loop. Trying hold off until mid-August to do this. This will give me enough time to fully decide on what i want to do. And design a window!

Hard to believe the sizing on the tube when comparing them side by side... The Tygon was run for <4mo on distilled+PT_Nuke. The LRT tubing came from Performance-PCs just as you see it; looks like it was bound too tight

I'm thinking of putting a fill/drain port here... Attempting to utilize some rotary fittings so it can rotate out when I need it, and back in when I dont.. Seems like it would be a tight fit

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/DSC_0450.jpg
Here's a little workspace/desk-shot. You might notice that I added a sound card since my last pics (Creative X-fi Platinum I had laying around). I wanted to test the quality between on-board & discrete with my Swan M-10's. Despite my despise for Creative products/software, it does sound better. Note, I'm missing the 19" 4:3 secondary LCD that would go on the arm to the left of my 24" (in the process of packing up to go home)

Now that I have time to work on my build, I'll defiantly be changing some things around!

Here are some of the planned upcoming changes in order of priority...
- Adding mCubed T-Balancer BigNG!
-- Removing modded Sunbeam Rheobus
-- Splicing similar fans together
- Replacing rear exhaust fan w/ Scythe Quiet Typhoon

- Moving the 1/2",3/4" compression fittings
- Adding 45* fittings to the FuZion
- Adding fill/drain port locations

- Moving to XSPC restop
-- Removing Micro-res
-- Moving pump to 5.25 bay area
- Painting interior (color undecided) & cutting cable management
- POSSIBLY W/C'ing the GPU

This is an awesome build, I just have to look it up now & then :) Kept very clean and simple but effective at the same time. Also looking up for some points for my own build in a silver V1000+. Been scavenging parts for a while and im almost there, it's going to be a tight fit with an MCR320 on the top with some Scythe ultra kazes. Might be a bit of a pain to route 1/2" tygon from my 4870X2 to rad but we'll see..lol. Some very nice V1000's on the forum

Thanks hewi,

Yeah, mounting a 320 at the top is defiantly possible, it will just cover (probably) 2 PCI slots... I thought of so many ways to mount more radiator in this case. 120's on the front and rear are defiantly possible, but I really want to see if i can fit a 320 in the front w/ some modding

I've given that some serious thought aswell...mounting a 320 in the front, downside is you will sacrifice all of your 5.2 bays, but if that's not a problem it's a pretty straight forward & easy mod. Just some cutting needed on the midplate and ur done, would propably get some nice airflow for the motherboard aswell if you set the fans on pull from front to back with the front mounted 320. Looking forward to what you come up with

lyl
12-23-2008, 10:19 AM
Just measured, i dont think the 320 will fit in my case due to the 220 i already have up top (pun intended). the MCR320 is 16" tall, and thats the exact length from the floor of my case, to the inlet/outlet to my top radiator

the way i see it, my options are -settle w/ another 120.2 mount it up front, or -extend the top radiator hole to fit a 320, which would defiantly put 2 PCI slots out of order (short cards can fit in there now ie. my sound card) & maybe even cover up some motherboard headers too

500 rpm: 0.015 A - 5 dBA - 31 m³/h or 1.55 CFM
800 rpm: 0.023 A - 9 dBA - 48 m³/h or 2.44 CFM
1,150 rpm: 0.034 A - 16 dBA - 63 m³/h or 3.15 CFM
1,450 rpm: 0.049 A - 21 dBA - 85 m³/h or 4.25 CFM
1,850 rpm: 0.083 A - 28 dBA - 98 m³/h or 4.9 CFM

I guess thats right looking at the Amp draw, they've got to be whisper quiet though.

Stupid multiple measuring systems! Why can't we use metric like the rest of the world! :shakes:

Okay, here is how I did my math. I could easily be wrong.

Convert meters in feet (we're sticking with cubic for volume) and go from hour to minutes - (85 * 3) / 60 = 4.25 CFM

You're right....50.029 CFM. What the hell was I doing wrong?

edit 2:
ahh... 1 cubic meter equals 35.3 cubic feet, thank you google.

Waiting for some updates impatiently, Lyl. Just finished cramming an MCR320 on the roof of my V1000-S, and im thinking of adding a 240 aswell...or going for the 360 Feser or XSPC RX. We need more V-1000's on the forums :D

Here's a shot of the bigNG's software (me just playing around with Temp Curves) for those that havnt seen it. Only a slice of the program's utility ;)

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q204/lyl18/WC%20Worklog/tbalancer.jpg

So ALL the fans can be connected to the bigNG and be controlled via software on the desktop?

My case has 12 fans but only 5 channels,

I was looking at this but never saw a preview of the software, and they are easy to setup?

The software is a little tricky at first, but very powerful once you use it a for an hour or so....

Installation isnt bad at all, manual does a good job of describing and showing pictures. Id suggest it for all, its a fun little toy!

Looking GREAT LyL!

Did you remember to mount the Mosfets blocks screws from the back? I think thats the proper way to assemble MIPS blocks.

Do you think it would fit a compression + rotary on the NB block?

lyl
01-26-2009, 03:41 PM
Yeah, Mosfets are screwed in from back. I was a little weary on how tight i should torque the NB screws because the screws are almost the length of the motherboard stand offs and the block was still a little loose. I got the screws within .02mm of the mobo tray, and its a little tighter, at least no side-to-side play.

^^ Could you see if fits?

Oops, sorry, I missed your question.

The NB inlet/outlets are very close together, but yes, w/ 45 rotaries. I tried it out, two 45's+compressions fit fine (ill probably end up doing this). OR... i havnt tried it, but It could be very similar to what I did w/ the Fuzion, and a 45+comp on one side and a extender+comp on the other. They NB ports are slightly closer than the Fuzions, so it may take 2 extenders. Hopefully a pic will help, let me know if this doesnt make sense

I can measure later when i have a bit more time :)

Heres a little update to keep/grab some attention, as this build is 95% done... Awaiting 2nd pump, then comes the final photography part!

It might be a well known fact, but was news to me, but EK reseviours do not seal properly with 1/2" comp fittings. The fitting's base is too large to make a good seal between res+oring. I needed a G1/4 extender to achieve a seal

Other related news, i believe have the finishing touches to my fittings.... THANKS to BP and Gary @ sidewindercomp' for the works of art!

current state of the PC....

i needed the PC up and running asap for school work so I was kinda in a rush to get hardware in. I dont have much more work to do... just gotta find a way to fit font bay covers back on (scythe hdd rack gets in the way of the clips), and splice GPU fan cables (the stray ones that you see).

Also moving the tbalancer to the hdd rack

havnt had time to OC yet either ><

i had that problem with the scythe rack mount too. what i did was drilled 3 new holes on each panel, so that i could move the bays 1cm back. and then my bay brackets just clicked on. :D
