We can start discussion about new MoBo line from ASUS. The P5Q bring P45 and ICH10R, and a huge span of voltages :)
I am impresed with new Deluxe :)
We can start with benchmarking and OC testing from now..

No voltage droop and drop.
BIOS - 1.4V
Idle - 1.392V
Load - 1.4V

With 65nm Quad core @ 3.6GHz

ICH9R > ICH10R
I'm move my RAID 0 from ICH9R to ICH10R without any problem, and just instal new driver in windows :)

PS
I'm expect soon this board in stores :)

Hmm the Deluxe and P5Q-E models look promising. I'm not sure what i think of the EPU function though... Can it be disabled, by not installing the drivers maybe?

The Nemesis
06-02-2008, 06:43 PM
Nice looking board, feature rich, impressive voltage regulation. Not impressed with FSB. 450FSB stable on quad core 65nm is attainable with most any p35, x38, g33, g35, & x48 boards, but thats where it ends. 45nm Quads are a total different story . 450FSB stable not easily attainable. I would be more impressed if I saw 500FSB 45nm Quad. I own a Q9450 and so far the best board I've paired with it has been Asus P5E-VM HDMI with G35 chipset. I can bench @ 488- 495FSB and prime stable @ 475FSB. Don't suppose you have a 45nm Quad at available to test?

BigJoe
06-02-2008, 09:57 PM

Edit: contacted Asus tech (US) support and they was unsure what it was but trying to find an answer to the Question and will e-mail me something when he finds out he said best he could tell ATM was something to do with the power saving design on the 16Phase design the (board is due for release in the North america market in June/08)

Wolfdale results please, also 2x2GB clocking would be nice :D

I have GeIL 2x2GB BD (Powerchip), and it work same as on BLITZ, 1100 CL5...
I used this memory for primeing this days, so you can see reasults on SS.
For memory OC for now RAMPAGE is best MoBo ;)

Maybe with the new OCZ 9200 sticks? 1150 stock speed, they need a lot of tweaking to work at that speed on X38/X48 mobos. Some guys have them at 1200MHz, probably limited again by the mobo.

Maybe, on BLITZ Formula with 1504 BIOS i got tRFC over 100, and P5Q Dlx for now has standard 42, and AUTO settings give me default 52, so i cant tweak mem to the limit :D

Maybe i will get me one of these too, but i hvae complaints about the pcie lanes.
To be more precisely, i will get me a new gfx card (ATI 4k or GTX 2X0) in the near future and i am running a pcie raid controller (pcie 8x).
So question is if the gfx will be limited by running at only pcie 8x ?
Atm i am using a DFI X38 LT with 45nm quad (fsb limit around 440 mhz :( ).

If I am not mistaken when u run 1 GFX u just get 16x lanes , but when u run Xfire then u will get 2x 8x lanes on a P45, whereas the X38/X48 got 2x 16x

Sure but if you put the radi controller in 2nd or 3rd ? pcie slot... it would get zero lanes with your explanation. So i think mobo will handle it like a 2nd gfx card and switch to 8/8 config. Pls correct me if i'm wrong :)

What bugs? The man already is hitting 500fsb.........this ain't nFarce boards. Nor DFI or MSI.

Asus and Intel Core Logics, ftw!

I was planning on an upgrade for 2010 but my fingers are itching again, so this P45 and the ICH10-R will do me good, and I'm still able to use my beloved D9GMH modules along with the newly purchased BFG 9800GTX (arriving Monday June 8th).

Now, onto the wait for the 45nm 12MB L2 cache CPU.....around Xmas that is, when Nahalem hits the market and you guys start ditching those. I'll get a deal from one of you. I'll be waiting.

In the beginning, the x38 and x48 seemed to be the best chipset, with best mobos. But those who had memories crucial and thought the x38 mobos its the best and bought the x38 did not do a good business, because the crucial announced the incompatibility of your memorys with x38 and x48. This is just one example of the problems that are likely to occur!

Is there any "Real" advantage ... in terms of OC'ing/Performance that P45 has over the P35?
I just got my ASUS P5K-E/Wifi-AP (p35) and i'm having some problems with it. I might end up RMA'ing it back to the 'egg ... and I'm considering getting this one. There's 4 versions of P5Q (P45) at ZipZoomFly ... varying costs ... not sure which one is better.

Well, why stick with mediocre memory modules and or brand? I've never own 'em and never will.

GIGABYTE boards have that issue but memory incompatibility is not the chipset problem if when other memory modules/brand work just as good.

I've never had memory incompatibility issues because I've always bought good reputable brands such as Corsair and now G.Skill. Crucial is a poor quality company (but they advertise like there's no tomorrow, so everyone thinks they're good), specially with their "Anniversary" RAM which several owners ended up RMA'ing. Get G.Skill and you won't have "memory incompatibility" issues, the Chipset accepts only good quality memory modules.

Like having a BMW and filling it up with 89 grade gas.......would you do that?
I don't agree with you.

Who owns Crucial? Micron. There's just a bad batch of D9s that seem to have ended up in Tracers.

Or well that's how I see it ;). I'm open for some critique.

A screenie, I could prime my Qx9650@3600 with the P5K dlx with LLC enabled at 1.135 (Small FFT's), with the P5Q Dlx I can do it at 1.120 without LLC (1.2Vcore set in bios, drops to 1.17 in windows) So the new PWM design seems to be very worth it...

This board requires again a total different setup coming from P35 or X38 to get there...

And a new bios is in the making, I had some issues with 400FSB/1000mhz ram 0604 Alpha seemed to fixed it...

Did some testing at 400FSB (425 and 450 will come later) to see how the performance levels are set by bios and how low manual it worked

400FSB and Ram at 800Mhz -- Bios sets 13 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 9 (8 doesn't post)

Ordered P5Q-D today, should be here by Tuesday.

Leeghoofd, you hit a PL7 @ 1066MHz on a 400FSB with what RAM configuration, 4x1GB or 2x2GB, and what brand were you using?

I've got a whole mess of DDR2 to work with:
4x1GB Cellshock PC8500 D9GMH
4x1GB Mushkin PC8500 D9GMH
4x1GB Patriot PC8500 D9GKX
2x2GB OCZ FlexII PC9200 Powerchips

Which RAM does this board prefer, D9GMH, D9GKX, or powerchips?

I'd prefer to use 4x1GB since I can pull tighter timmings with 4 sticks over the 2x2 configuration and I'd like to use the Cellshocks since they seem to clock higher.

Is their a Beta BIOS available from their FTP site or is the 0506 the latest BIOS?

Thanks....

4Gb ( 2 x 2 ) Mushkin PC8000 Redline 5-5-5-15, think they are powerchips as they require almost no volts to run at stock or even 1066Mhz (1.92ish level)
I don't have my 2gb Gskill kit here but will test those next week, they did 1200mhz 5-5-5-15 on the P5K and 780i...

My Gskill 4Gb PC8000PQ kit needs more volts to do the same... really looking forward to the OCZ test as running 1200mhz with 4Gb is a dream come true...

For the format I could go straight from my P5K Dlx to this one with just deinstalling my LAN drivers... worked fine... now I freshly installed WinXP64 and got that EPU thingy also installed but like BigJoe mentioned no settings possible when running OC'ed...

There's an Alpha bios around 0604, no beta yet...

No, not looking for miracles. Just 400-420FSB / 1066-1125MHz (400 STRAP) 5-4-4-12 PL7 w/ 9-9.5 multiplier. I have given up on achieving CAS4 on x38/x48 boards. I've ssen others do it but I haven't been able to get there as of yet.

I had problems with my DFI x48. I couldn't get my Flex II's off the 266/667 strap so I was stuck @ 1003MHz 5-5-3-12. No matter what I did, zilch. I also couldn't get any of my 4x1GB kits to work either, error'd in Memtest right from the start even though they all tested fine individually in all 4 slots.

So, I'm just looking for a trouble free experience so I can game for a few months before Nehalem comes, then I will play somemore.

Thanks....

Nice, I'm really liking the BIOS options this time around. It's good to see the clk skew options, Pull-ins, and GTL's that should help acheive a decent FSB and RAM clock. With your CPU PLL set at 1.5V what does your BIOS report? On my Formula x38 it over-volted to 1.61V. I really hope this is not the case this time around.

This might be a fun little tweaker board afterall.

No HW monitoring at P5Q Dlx for all voltages :(
Just +3.3 +5 +12 and vCore...

I think no overvolting or undervolting on this board, based on vCore expirience ;)

I'm asking about BIOS differences between P5Q-E and P5Q Deluxe, is there any?

Grab the manuals and find out, and really these crap phases made me buy this board and till now it has proven pretty stable on voltages... better than my P5K Dlx for sure...

EDIT : I grabbed P5Q-E manual and ram and voltage settings look the same... so you might be a pretty happy camper then....

Any ETA on the Premium?

If this board handles like the P5K-D then I'll be happy. I really enjoyed that board, more so than any of the boards I've had previously and since.

I wonder if Everest will be able to read any of the voltages then....

Will be using a X3320 (9300) for now that I have on hand. I know it has a low multi (7.5) so will need to run high FSB to get to decent clock. Nice low power consumption tho for quad :)
Also, I am thinking of keeping it on air for now and ordering Xigmatek 1263 if that will fit...

One of the reasons I stressed this with current alpha bios things are way better, but still needs some tweaking to get up to P35/X38 level...

Overall stability is amasing out of the box...PWM voltage regulation too and the board seems build to last... hope we've got a winner here !!!

This is looking very good to me.

But i have a couple questions on this mobo...

What is max user defined tRFC in the bios?
Leeghoofd, you are showing 55, that's set from bios, right?
How much higher does it go?

And tRD aka Performance Level, any chance you can tell me what the lowest is for 350 MHz FSB?
tRD 7 @ 400 MHz isn't bad, but i have 10x multi...more interested in tRD at lower FSBs like ~350 (i can do tRD 5 on this DFI).

Also, Leeghoofd, i'd love to know if you can pass HCI Memtest (four instances to use all 8 GB) with all 8 GB.

This DFI is garbage for tweaking 8 GB.
Only ratio i can run stably is 2:3...anything else craps out with 8 GB.

Thanx muchly.

Nasgul, all im seeing is the G.Skill or Muskin 1gb sticks with the D9GMH chips unless im missing something on the list in either (PC 8000 ) or the (PC 8500) looks like the 2x2mb kits are D9GKX any difference in them? http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/

EDIT: I think if found the answer

D9GMH : 333MHz C5 1.8V Micron certified
D9GKX : 400MHz C5 1.8V Micron certified : its looking like D9GKX are better for high frequency with lower timings

You guys are mixing up 1Gb and 2gb sticks... I can heartly recommend the 4GB kits but will test the 2GB kit next week (those are Microns for sure) they should be able to get me up to 1200mhz 5-5-5-15 for sure...

Will try some stuff N7, but eg if you want 3.6Ghz it's better overall to do it with a lower multi as you increase the bandwith of the ram and on the cores...

Bios TRFC options for 4gb kits : 55-60-70-80-85-105-132

N7 I booted with 350FSB and 8GB PC8000 Ram at 1053 : Bios set AUTO perf level at 8, manual I could go to 6 lowest.

Bandwith test 3.5ghz - 350FSB -RAM 1053Mhz - Perf level 6

http://users.pandora.be/OAP/P5QDlx/8GB350-1053.JPG

Compare it with CPU at 3.6Ghz - 400FSB -RAM 1066Mhz - Perf Level 7

READ 8540 - Write 8481 - COPY 8684 - Latency 62.5ns

I would seriously go for 400FSB on this board... till maybe a newer bios gives a lower performance level...

HCI Test 4 instances 8GB Ram Perf Level 6

All current DDR2 EM2/HP2/XP2 Mushkin is Powerchips, unless you are referring to their very old 2x2 GB kits, which haven't been sold for a long time.
They ususually were D9GSV, though D9HBD was in the old HP2 kit apparently.

An FYI: basically every decent 2x2 GB DDR2 kit uses Powerchips.
The Crucial Ballistix 2x2 GB DDR2 kit is rumored to be a new Micron, but till i see ICs, it clocks just like PSC...

My concern is the x8 lanes under xfire especially with the new gpus coming out......is this a needless worry:shrug: considering its 2.0.

I've been asking this same questions on various forums for the last month or so and no one has really been able to give me an answer. I NEED to upgrade my system pretty soon and I want to make sure the motherboard can handle these new GPU's the are coming out.

ASUS P5Q-E build 0702 (http://strony.aster.pl/pmpcfg/PC/ASUS_P5Q_SERIES/P5Q-E-ASUS-0702.rar)
ASUS P5Q Deluxe build 0702 (http://strony.aster.pl/pmpcfg/PC/ASUS_P5Q_SERIES/P5Q-ASUS-DELUXE-0702.rar)
ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe build 0702 (http://strony.aster.pl/pmpcfg/PC/ASUS_P5Q_SERIES/P5Q3-ASUS-DELUXE-0702.rar)

Note that 2 new options are added, CPU and NB clock skew. Set CPU to 400 ps and NB to 100 ps to get some extra FSB (play ofc with these settings).

Thx PMP will test it today , hope to improve some rambandwith here :)

EDIT : For my QX quad all seems to be the same... will have to try the wolfies soon... only thing I noticed is that Static Read Contol can remain on auto, while I had to disable it before to get it to post... latency on the ram is still the same and performance level manual set too...

This board is moving fast, good job PMP...will this be the new Commando ? So nice 400FSB/1066Mhz out of the box with minimum voltage settings...8Gb of ram and a Quad

Kind regards Albrecht

Does clock skew affect perfomance or only stability and max OC?

Hence it has to do with some internal delays, overall performance is still better due to higher FSB clock. In theory :P

i reached 560MHz prime stable with conroe when i had it for review and with unmature bios.
If it profits of the new bios as the p5q dlx, 600mhz no prob. Without the new version i could also get only 560 with p5q dlx and conroe.

Depends on what you want to do... max overclocks this board seems sweet with the latest biosses, day to day use with same clocks... don't think there will be much that differencs from P35/X38/X48/P45...

True, but it would appear that current highend gpus are starting to be held back under 8x 2.0. If this is the case then surely next gen cards will widen the gap
