can i do this? i am pretty sure i can based on some threads usinbg matrix raid...

2 80G drives (7200.10's)

Raid 0 for about 40G's
Raid 1 for the rest (documents and crap)

then have 2 160G 7200.10's in raid one

Basicaly haveing 3 diff raid arrays using 4 drives?

then on the Jmicron i will run my extra 250G drive and my DVDRW SATA drive...

i know Jmicron sucks, but is it fine for single drives?

Yes, you can do that. I do that with my 2x 80GB drives.

What you want to do though is make sure you set the RAID0 size to 80GB (40GB from each drive) and then the remaining 34.5GB will be RAID1. It's only 34.5GB because once your format it, it "loses" space, but I'm sure you know that already. ;)

Not sure if you can have three separate RAID arrays on the ICH9R chipset though... You can have two arrays on the same two drives though, that's easy.

JMicron will be just fine for an optical drive and a single storage drive.

ur fine, and u can have 8 raid arrays or 16 on the ich9r (depending on the bios)

just dont run raid or asci over the jmicron, and u will need to raise the SB voltage 2 notches

sweet, thanks for confirmation, the second raid 1 i plan to have 2 seperate 160G drives via SATA port 2-3 (80G will be on the 0-1)

since my main rig was stolen before (raid 5, family pics all that) for now i just want a raid 1 to copy over some disk's i have of pics, what sucks is i didnt back up to disk from like 2007 on, which include pics of my mom before she passed way dec 17 2007. i hope the theifs finds those pics and feel guilty, f**king ass hats!

anyways, for now i am thinking

SATA 0/1 - 80G drive split Raid 0 - 40G - raid 1 the rest
SATA 2/3 - 2 x 160G drives Raid 1
Jmicron 0 - 320G drive
JMicron 1 - DVD drive
