are these pumps EXACTLY the same? if not, what are their performance differences?

also, it's to my understanding that the MCP355 is the same as the MCP350 except it uses more power, faster flow rate, and a tad bit more noisy right? if it's undervolted, will it have the exact same performance as the MCP350?

The MCP355 will be DDC3.2's now. You'll be lucky to find an original DDC2. The latter is a tad more powerful but more volatile.

It's a bit more complicated than that.

The older pumps with an orange colored impeller were the Laing DDC2 and at that time swiftech rebranded them as the MCP355

The pumps have been completely redesigned since the DDC2 though. The most obvious is the color change from orange to blue, but the motors are all different and the impeller inlet is smaller.

With the newer pumps, Laing now calls those the DDC 3.1 and DDC 3.2. They are exactly the same pump except for this soldered connection with gives the 3.2 more volts.

And here is some pictures of the old and newer pumps side by side:

So in the end your question is loaded...:D It could be a yes if it's talking about the old pumps, but a no if the newer MCP355 is a blue impeller.

And as far as the 350 vs 355, I would just get the 355 and undervolt it if you want or you could also remove the soldered bridge and go back an forth between pumps, they are the same otherwise.

so nowadays, does swiftech still rebrand the laing pumps? if not, then which one is more reliable? if so, then laing ddc3.2 is the same as a MCP355?

yes, swiftech still rebrands pumps.

Absolutely. Your knowlege into these things far exceeds mine as far as generals and particulars go. :)

Actually, you just posted while I was trying to write...that was just a statment towards the OP's orginal question of DDC2 vs MCP355.

I'm terribly slow....:D

hey Martinm210 have you tried the MCP350 in comparison to the MCP355?? i have a mcp350 that i havent used in a while but i was thinking about getting the XPSC res top for it but maybe its not worth it?? I dont want to spend another $80 on a 355 if the 350 is close

thanks

I was just getting started on my MCP350 pump top testing, it's something I've been putting off for far too long. I'm sure it's enough power for alot of systems and at least on the new ones, I would just solder the connections and then you'll have a 355 if that's what you wanted.

Oh wow i guess i misunderstood your above post i didnt realize i could just mod the 350 into a 355, great stuff

thanks

CCC, its the newer blue impeller mcp350/355 that could be modded to 9 or 18watts by simply soldering the extra connection or removing the soldered connection.

yah my 350 has the blue impeller, i bridged the 2 points and it worked perfectly, hooked it back up and it definately has more power now

thanks again for the great info

Right on, glad it help...it was something I had heard and Petra clarified for me so I made up that quick photo outlining it.

I've heard of some people even setting up a switch between the two contacts, that way you can have an easy 2 speed switch for the pump.
