I don't know if u guys know what this stuff is, but its an awesome all natural Ice Tea. It was on sale so I bought 42 bottles. Here are some of them. Focus was supposed to be on the center bottle, but it isnt.. its the ones right behind this. I didnt realize this until after I put all the bottles in the fridge (we have 2 fridges) so I couldnt redo the shot.

I hate that. You get frustrated with the auto focus and when you decide to manual focus you focus the wrong object! :P

Well, even with the wrong focusing, it's a great shot! Was that with your D300 or D40x? Did you return the D300?

Its with the D300. I am keeping it and selling the D40x. Attempting to go pro.

I love the shot. :yepp: Not a pro, but the colors make it appealing to look at.

Good job.

You can be a pro with any camera just about...heck a real pro could even get good shots from a Canon

The D300 makes it alot easier from two points of view.

1. it works alot faster than the D40x
2. People respond much more positively to the D300 than to the D40x. People looking for a photographer, who actually know what SLR's are, see the D300 and are more likely to hire. This sucks, but its true.

What really gets them going is when you roll out the 100 pound hard case with all your gear ;)

I understand the speed of the D300 - it even blows away my D80. The thing blazes through all its operations. Maybe the D90 will inherit some of this?

100 pound hard case. lol. 1 camera bag for me. Later on I will need to get another bag for lenses.

I'm sure it will to a degree but it wont have the 51point autofocus. Maybe ~20 or so. But it will have active D-lighting which is awesome. No idea on the FPS though.

Active D is on the D80, that's nothing new. I haven't really messed with it though, it doesn't sound any different than using Shadow/Highlight in Photoshop which is just a software lifting of shadows.

Thats a really good pic Maxxx!
And yea, auto focus is bad when it doesn't focus in the right spot.... but I still think the pic came out really good!

I'm saving up for a nice camera myself, I really like this photography stuff!! :D

Maxx, do you use the center point or multi point?

I use the center 99% of the time. I focus with the center point and recompose...it beats having the camera choose a focus point I don't agree with. It's much faster for me that way.

No, its different. The Active D-lighting on the D300 and D3 is different than what is on all of the other Nikons. The D3 and D300 still have the Active D-lighting that is in the post processing section of the camera, but what the D300 and D3 have is essentially a tame version of HDR. It takes blown out areas and brings them back and lightens up some dark areas as well as widening the dynamic range of the camera. Read ken rockwells article on the D3.

I generally use center point with 3D tracking. Its not a real center point. Its the middle selection on the focus settings. I find that full autofocus is retarded. The autofocus sensor on the D300 is so f'ing large compared to the image sensor, that it focus' all over the place. That said, the 3d tracking is nice for moving targets.

HDR? Software processing on a single image cannot be put in the same category as HDR.

Agree about the focus...I switch between the small and wide focus point from time to time, but always focus on my subject and move the camera a bit to frame.

HDR is the only thing I could relate it to. check it out and you will see why I compared it to HDR.
