I just installed my new motherboard and flashed to 2619 bios. The original bios was from March (I believe). What is the best bios for overclocking with the 8K3A+

The best performance for me has got to be the 23.12. You can't get super high fsb like 200 or nothin with it though. Also its faster than the other ones at higher fsb's. Its all I use.

ive used 23.12 for performance and 24.03 for highest fsb. i tried the newest 26.xx bios on both my 8k3a and 8k3a+ but had restart problems with them..... back to 24.03 now.

My system had problems with the 2619 bios. Data corruption, comp freezing, comp starting by itself etc.

Anyway I found the 2626 BETA bios. It seems to allow very high fsb speeds.

Due to the loss of a lot of hardware. Electrical problems were to blame.:( I tried this bios with some Crucial 2100 and with slower timings was able to run at 200 fsb.

Hope it works for you.

You could just tell him to put the .bin on a blank floppy, restart, and hit ALT-F2 when the bios pops up. Lazy hooch!

Oh right, and my 2cents on this matter.... 2612 is the only bios that my Tbred will work w/ w/o error for some reason. On my Duron 1.0, the 2325 was very good for me, but I'm pretty sure the 2626 is the best currently.

I'm back after a nasty experience with Partition Magic....:stick:

I'm assuming you meant reinstalling an earlier bios. Yep that's all you do just reflash with the earlier one. Except make certain you pull the power chord out of the comp and clear the CMOS with the jumper afterward. Then upon re-entering your bios, load optimised defaults. Save it and reboot. Enter the bios and set all your parameters as you had them before.

Reason for doing this is to make certain all old settings are gone.

new 2719 beta bios

Holy Moly with bios 2719 I can push the fsb up to 214 without tearing. I use to get tearing at a fsb of 210 at occasional system freezes.

How does it compare performance-wise overall to earlier bios' though?

Otherwise.........   I'm gonna have to flash to a new bios!

I just flashed from 2626 to 2719 and I'm running our teams SETI@home benchmark unit to see how it performs. With 2626 I finished the .417 angle wu in 2.735 so we'll see how this new one stacks up.

Btw, I'm running this "test" with an Epox 8k3a+, AGOIA XP1600, and Corsair XMS PC3000 at 210x9, CAS2, "ultra", 1T.

Well I flashed to 2719 following you guinea pigs... ;)

I got my XMS PC2700 Corsair up to 200mhz :D (albeit with relaxed timings)

Well I'll give it a try if my board lets me.... I'm gonna go back downstairs and see if I can get her to run. I seem to be having technical difficulties. I rebooted and nothing happened. Booted, nothing, no power, no fans no nothing. So imma try a diff. power button, and diff. psu. Somethin may have died. *prays it wasn't the mobo*.

Currently my Epox w/ 2612 I could get 211 aggressive, and 233.98 slacked timings.

Let us know of your results with the 2719 bios. If all your settings are the same and better performance is gained that'll be great.
:toast:
Someone else said they tested with earlier bios'. They found 23.12 followed by 2719 followed by 2626. However didn't say what fsb's etc were used.

Around 200fsb+, how much extra fsb does it take roughly, to get better performance at relaxed timings 2.5-3-6-3-2T; than at say at 190 with 2-3-6-3-1T timings. In other words once you reach the limit of the more agressive timings, how much further do you have to go (fsb) with relaxed timings to get better performance if all other things are equal?

I'll take a guess and say 10 mhz fsb, maybe more. I haven't really been mucking around with benching at the moment. It would probably depend on what test you performed as well......

Ok, with the same settings(and same wu)...
2626 bios: 2.7346
2719 bios: 2.7298

I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get the same settings with the 2312 bios but I'll give it a shot this weekend. If I can, I'll post the result.

Have a good weekend.
