Intro
Hello everyone, finally school is out for the summer! Now I can actually spend sometime working my rig :). I'm fairly new to the water cooling scene so I figured I get a work log going. My purpose is to get some critiques and feedbacks. I got some help from a few members here already, thank you!

This will be my second water cooling rig. My first one was with a kit from Gigabyte. It wasn't too shabby but boy there are so much more I found out about water cooling. It suddenly became a sick hobby mine. I've pretty much ordered and got all the parts I needed while I was still in school. Here we go I guess I'll start off with the hardware list.

Hardware
Case..........MM Duality Black
Mobo.........Asus 680i Striker Extreme
CPU...........Q6600 G0
Memory......4x1Gb Kingston HyperX DDR2 800Mhz
Graphics.....2x8800 GTX
PSU...........Thermaltake 450W & Tegan 1100W
Fan............120mm Yate Loon D12SM-12 Case
Controler.....Zalman 6 chan fan controller/SuperFlower SF-610 Digi Master

Liquid Hardware
1x..............D-Tek Fuzion w/pro mount
2x..............Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Waterblock
2x..............EK Waterblocks - EK-Mosfet ASUS
2x..............Swiftech MCW60 VGA Waterblock
2x..............Thermochill PA120.3
1x..............Thermochill PA120.2
3x..............Swiftech MCP655 /w (UN)Designs 360 Bracket
20'.............Tygon R-3603 1/2"ID 3/4"OD
2x..............Swiftech MCRES-MICRO
1x..............Danger Den Dual Bay Reservoir
All..............D-Tek Barbs (Except Reservoir which are Eks)

Goal
This is probably my fifth PC I've build. I normally do not care about the clean look. But after I found out about sleeving and having looked at some of the sharpest rigs around here I am motivate for the same look:cool:. So a nice clean look, with performance and efficiency is the goal.

Now the pics

Pre-assembly

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/pre2.jpg
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/pre3.jpg

Hmm getting crampy
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/pre3x.jpg
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/pre4.jpg
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/pre5.jpg

I pre-assembled the parts to get a good look at where or how I should place things. I wanted to make sure that before I start sleeving the wires I want to get the right measurement for them.

My biggest concern is placement for ease of routing, performance, and efficiency. Where should I place the DD Dual Bay res? What would be the most idealistic place for efficient flow and ease of tube routing? I'm looking to go with:

1st loop only CPU
2nd loop GPUs
3rd Chipsets & MOSFETs.

I think setup that I've read and have suggested something res>pump>rad>component(s)>res?

Also the Zalman fan controlers. I was thinking that it should be on the opposite side of the bay, away from the mobo section to get the clean look. What do you guys think? What I haven't mount on there are the threes MPC655 and two Micro Res. Again any suggestions for placement? Hmm and HDDs there will be a total of 3.

Well thats all for now any help appreciated.

Wow. great build. Fantastic work, HOW I LOVE THIS CASE

I have (2) dualities, one is just about finished, seems there is always one more
item that i decide that it needs, But i am running 2 systems in the box.

I love the way you took over the
spot for the second motherboard and
put a dual rad, very sweet idea.

I am just "in my mind" gettiung ready for the second build.
The one i am finishing up now is just for gaming and some
encoding when needed. But the second will be my work box.

I am subscribed, keep up the great job!

Why is your Duality rear radiator adapter in that funky blue color and not clear acrylic ? Did you order it in that color ? They scribbled on it with marker pen??

Are you saying that I should do the pull method rather than push?

Yea thanks to Barfastic, he told me about it. But wow 2 dualities huh. Yea the MM started to grow on me every time I saw it. So I was like I have to have this!

Hahaha :rofl:yea don't worry about it. I did the same thing. When I pulled it out of the box I was like wtf! they send me the wrong one! Then after few looks I finally I saw the marker on it, hard to make out at first glance.

Thanks for the tip. Hmm I found out about this from another thread here. http://scc.jezmckean.com/ I'm going to try it out for bit.

Nice build, I have a couple questions... that a U2 UFO duality or an Ascension duality?

And you mentioned MCW30 raiser kits, are those custom jobs or can they be purchased?

MegadetHCl
05-24-2008, 06:26 PM
I would recommend to do a mockup install with actual tubes, as the tubes tend to be a bit thicker and have a limited bending capacity compared to lines drawn in MSPaint =)

Marquis
05-25-2008, 04:44 AM
I'm liking your placement Pellepel, I was thinking of doing it this way.....with the 3 pumps side by side?

The only problem this way is that it's a tight fit between the front and back rads and will need some coils for the tight bends.... going to have to give it a tube test :(

Pellepel
05-25-2008, 09:51 AM
@smee: thanks! actually a few paychecks :)

@ Kilyin: thanks, thats the U2 UFO Duaility. I probably would of gotten the Ascension duality. But I ordered mine month earlier before it came out. But its okay, I'm digging the cube look.
Yup you can purchase the raising kits directly from Swifttech's Site (http://www.swiftnets.com/).

@MegadetHCl: good point. Hmm maybe I should get some cheap similiar tubes from the hardware store and test it out.

@Marquis: good one, actually I did try it that way but with the UN brackets I couldn't line them up like that. But yea I like that orientation. I also flipped my PA120.2 likes yours, kinda like it that way :)

@spotswood: That is a great idea! I'm going to try it out and I'll let you know what happens.

Pellepel
05-25-2008, 11:35 AM
Ok here we go. I used spotswood's idea. I think this is what he's talking about? I used the pre-drilled holes to hold it in place for the shot. Though it feels a little flimsy, but might be sturdier if everything is bolt down. What do you guys think?

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/p3Medium.jpg

armeniandave
05-25-2008, 03:23 PM
Well it seems Spotswood doesn't like my brackets, thats ok they aren't going to work for every solution.
Pellepel you have three of my brackets and I don't normally say this but you can put two pumps on one bracket. That is one of the reasons that I put all the holes down the upright. I actually think your original idea would work fine now that you put your radiator the other way. Remember to try different orientations. Most people are used to the stock bracket and aren't used to putting the pump at different angles. I don't usually try to tell people where or how to use the brackets but I am interested in using the same case as yours to replace my Cosmos. I have attached some pics to give you some ideas. You could maybe mount two on the bottom and one on the back. I only have one extra pump for mock ups so you have to combine the two pics together to understand what I'm talking about.
Hope this helps you out. Any questions just ask.

armeniandave
05-25-2008, 04:16 PM
Dude, I love your brackets. I didn't notice them in his pics, sorry. :shakes:

My intentions were to suggest a way to use vertical space when placing his pumps and in no way a dis on your (great) product.

No worries man. You just kept telling him to use the MM bracket so it seemed like you didn't like them. I apologize for the comment I probably should have asked you first.
I just think they could work great but you have to think outside of the box, per se.
And thanks for the complement I worked real hard to make sure the brackets work as advertised and give people as many possibilities to mount there pumps where they want to. I hate to see people put there equipment in a certain place because the have to work around the stock 90 degree bracket. Thanks again and no hard feelings..

Pellepel
05-26-2008, 07:30 AM
@armeniandave: Thanks for the info. Its pretty nice to get feed backs from the designer itself! Yes that is an excellent bracket, it was ingenious idea. Yup I definitely see it now. Thats great that I am able to mount it on to one bracket. I'll have to test out and try different placements.

Though I'm not really sure what you mean by mount two on the bottom and one on the back? Thanks

@Mr.Guvernment: Thanks! Yup definitely looking forward to polish it up :)

@requ13m: All I gotta say is go for it man. You won't regret it.

@spotswood: No worries any suggestion always appreciated.

@All: thank you again for the comments/suggestions.

armeniandave
05-26-2008, 08:32 AM
I meant one on the back of the motherboard tray. At least I think thats where you put them in the second mockup. It was just a suggestion but if you put the two on the bottom then there would be plenty of room to adjust them for the best positioning. Of course I can't see your case exactly and unless your in San Diego I just have to go by your pics.

The bracket is easily strong enough to hold two pumps so you could mount the two on the bottom with the base of the bracket pointing away from the opening and it will look like the pumps are just floating there. From what I've seen so far I'm confident you'll come up with a solution.

Well, while I waited for some comments about the pumps and stuff. I wanted to explore the so call sleeving. I ventured into the task only equipped with ideas seen from people’s pics with little annotation. I thought to myself well this would be a pretty easy job. I've worked with shrinking tubes before, splicing wire, and re-connecting them together. Piece of cake!

Well not quite...I'll tell you why, I've under estimated preposition. The sleeves were cut too short. Ok no problems redo. Ok now the shrinking tubes are too short and the sleeve is slipping off Yaaay!. Alright, let’s make the shrinking tube a little bit longer. So then I had this great idea. Why use a blow dryer when there a heating gun. This would surely speed up shrinking process. Yup, the tubes shrunk pretty fast, so fast that it melted the sleeve. I couldn’t stand it, the melted piece just below the shrinking tubes was an eyesore…sigh:( re-do. I should of have stuck with using the lighter.

So I thought what the hell am I doing wrong  and what am I missing? There’s gotta be some tips. So I fired up Google and found this http://www.wikihow.com/Sleeve-Computer-Cables. Was pretty helpful, especially singeing the ends of the sleeve to eliminate frays and unweaving. But in the ending it all came together. Like any other task with a bit of practice it will soon avail.

Was pretty tough with the first Rad. But the second and the third, piece of cake. :)

Same with the back bottom holes.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm245/pellepel/a2.jpg

HI, no offence ment, but are you mounting it from the inside?

Mine the motherboard tray assemblies mount by sliding them
in thru the back and the overhang/lip is on the outside....

but from your pic it looks like your putting the motherboard in from the side window and trying to push it against the back,
thus you loose a lot of alignment.

just a thought.

Yup I tried that too, I left them on for weeks ( I've prepped them before I started to get my hands dirty with the case). I just stopped by Micro Center today and bought the Arctic Alumina. Now think about this. Get some of that Mesh and the edging and make a cover that goes over your power supply and
also a little bit more. It will let you hide more of the wires and also give the pumps a very cool looking backdrop to
be up against and really make them pop and put more focus on the pumps and not the wiring. I was thinking silver not
black mesh since it will be a great contrast to the black pumps... Just a thought, got it from this pic below but instead of running it up the back of hte motherboard tray just have it come up from the floor behind and inbetween the pumps and then bend it to cover the top of the PS and run it flush to the back of hte motherboard tray and stop..
So it's just like a "L" shaped cover....

Idea's from JSUNN Build, Sweet Rig, thanks for the photo's

Like this cardboard mold but going behind the pump and not with that little lip on the back, just run into the MB tray....

http://members.cox.net/jromero21/case/mesh%20idea2.jpg

Again not run up the back but just a L shaped cover.

Thanks! I really like the case so far. Its quite manageable. I like how everything can be taken apart, i.e MB tray, HD brackets, bays, etc. So it was very easy to put things together. I think it’s very easy to hide the cables to give that nice clean look. Other than that I can't complain much. I was able to fit 3 MCP655, 2 standard PSU, so it’s not too shabby.

If your looking for a triple loop system, this will definitely suffice your needs. There’s a lot of stuff you could customize, and MM is pretty much open to your customization needs; just gotta give them a jingle :).

You brackets worked out great. Gives me the option of moving it back and forth. If needed I can just d/c the tubes swing it upside and adjust the speed.

I ordered 20 feet of tube plus I had some left from the previous build. I didn't feel like buying cheap tube to experiment with =p and I did some trimming to try to give it the uniform bends for adjacent tubes. Though you can probably get away with less than 20 feet of tubing.

Hope your board come soon :)

Yup, leak testing is completed. Putting zip tie around the SB block was so much fun :yepp: (not). I had to dismount the mb tray, pull it back a little to get to the pci screw, remove the top video card. Then my hands were free to malest those barbs.

Sorry @ your problems...

Thanks, yea the project was pretty much done. I had the dyes going, mounted all the UV lights, cables are cleaned off and tucked away. After the entire cleanup I was able to boot up just fine with the current OS already installed. Then I notice SLI wasn’t working. Did a little troubleshooting and found out that the first card wasn't properly seated. Dismounted the mobo and pulled it back a little to get to the screw. I guess it wasn’t properly seated when I dismounted first time to get the zip tie on the south bridge.

Before I properly screw the mobo back up I decided to power it back up just to make sure that it was the problem. It turned out that I was right, card wasn’t properly seated and SLI options appeared when I got into Windows. I shut her down, very happy and ready to mount everything back up. With the wires tucked in what not, I had a little trouble getting the screws to properly lined up, so d/c all the wires, and redid the tucking task.

Now she doesn’t want to boot up, she sits there with CPU INIT. Sigh I’m following some instructions to try to get resolve this error. I have to leave out the battery for half a day. They recommend only one GPU card plugged in. But that’s a daunting task with all the hose mounted and with water in it. I guess I could just unplug it and leave it hanging, but that requires dismounting the mobo again :( :shakes:

My plan was to get it ready for a photo shoot by Wednesday,(waiting for the last UV light to come in.) Wanted to take the shots with all the lights and all the glory, but now that may change. Then again I just may take it anyway.

Update! 7/11/08

Here you go guys this is pretty much the final update. The natural lighting in my room does not do the camera justice. I have some minor stuff to finish up (route the temp probes, and maybe sleeved up each individual psu wire, speaker wire, but i'm kinda lazy now going to put that last priority).

I didn't take any shots during the progress as I need to finish build ASAP (school is around the corner), so they were all skipped. Here are the final shots, but let me know what you guys think and enjoy :)

I realise the thread's a little old, but I HAD to chime in on this one and just saw how incredibly impressed I am with how this turned out.

I'm debating picking up a Duality to physically have two systems in the case and watercool one of them with the two 120.3 rads or use the whole right side for h2O gear like you did.

One way or another these cases are effing amazing and I can't wait to join the Duality family!

Go trinity front and you can have a 3rd triple rad up front!

Cornelious0_0
08-11-2008, 04:31 AM
I thought the Trinity front panel was only available for the Ascension case...maybe not.

If you can get the Trinity front panel with the U2-UFO then I might try and fit things in neatly enough and use two full systems in the case, one 120.3 rad for the secondary system (lower end, less heat) to cool the CPU/GPU and a seperate 120.3 rad/loop for the CPU and GPU of the main system.

Would definitley be pretty sweet, can't wait to be able to get my hands on one of these beasts.

Thanks, yea MM is awesome, lots of room to work with. If you go with 2 MB's it might get too warm if you're planning to OCing your systems.

Yup I also recommend trinity front, a bit bigger because it’s taller, but gives you more opportunity to mount bigger rad.

I love the job and look forward to more..
P.S> with all the changing hardware and prices, i have
taken my duality all apart and put 2 P35 motherboards it there
and i am going with a 9800GX2 in the Mars and a 3870X2 in the bitz.,

So now it will be a dual quad Xeon box with dual GPU cards in each system.
LOL, i am hoping for 20k from each side, but I need to do one more mod,
to put a Black Ice Micro2 2-pass Dual 80 mm Radiator on each of the
top power supply glass and run my WC cooling from the chipset's and CPU to the
micro's and then to the video cards, to get the temps down to where i can pull of the 20k overclock....
