cpu usage goes way up when using keyboard

when im typing while listening to youtube or streaming music, especially if i hold down the spacebar the cpu usage goes up and the song skips.

what gives?

could it be that my keyboard is hooked up to the purple port? edit: (ps/2) haha


machine:

5000 BE @ 3.0ghz (200 x 15)
asus m3a-H (780g)
g.skill (2 x 2gb) ddr2 800 4-4-4-12
WD 250G

FYI the "purple port" is called a PS/2 connector.

The model of keyboard would be helpful here, and also the OS you're running.

and i think its an older dell keyboard
