Hi Guys :)

Recently i had a chance to test one of ASUSīs new x48 DDR3 motherboards. The P5E64 WS Evolution.

Now comming from the P5E WS PRO DDR2 x38, wich is a board i love do to its stability and overclocking ability, it was hard for me to belive that there was something better on the market for me....well i was wrong:)

The P5E64 WS Evolution is realy a dreamboard if you ask me. Its stable as a rock, have great OC potential......and it looks good:D

Enought talk......lets see some pics of this bad boy :D

All together it have been wonderfull to play with another workstation board. I already got a thing for this Evolution i must admit:D Its just so easy to work with, and very stable:)

Later we will see how it does on some more extreme cooling.....

But for now...if you are looking for a stable and OC friendly board...the P5E64 WS Evolution is the way to go:)

I believe the blackops is in the same league as this board;) There is no independent Blackops review, only some members of XT community have been granted access to this board. Well it's certainly good looking and the quality of components seems good, it's really well thought out but unfortunately in terns of non-LN2 performance I see absolutely nothing to shout about. Can't see how anyone can pick this board as a foundation on which to build a rig that will last you 3+ years... many guys here can either afford to change mobos like underwear or don't pay a cent to play around with hardware. ANd some guy even said the BIOS "may be a little different from what you might be used to" which is a clearly a red flag to me :)

No sorry.....dont have a SAS disc:)

I am 24/7 stable at 560 1.6v. could proberly run 570 1.7v, but i wont do that for 24/7 with normal nb cooling :)

Thats what i love with this board. when its stable, its just stable. no fine tuning for 24/7 use. for an example.......if 572 is very unstable, then 570 can very easy be 100& stable. it have a sweetspot, and when you find it..its steady as a rock :)

1.You should see what eva2000 can do with his p35 based Asus boards.
2. About bonetrail, it's pretty much vanilla - but it works and it's probably okay for normal use. Some other boards exist only in cyberspace and haven't been subjected to scrutiny.

# SIOUX Very nice review and good to see an "old" overclocking.dk user among the very respectable users of xtremesystems. I would like to ask if you have a qualified recommendation about which X48 motherboard is best for overclocking the hardware in my sig (well except for the two 9800 GTX in SLI ;-), say choosing from the Asus P5E64 WS Evolution, the Asus P5E3 Premium or the Foxconn Blackops? I saw at octeamdenmark.dk that you had a Blackops on the way have you tested that one yet? My Striker II Extreme is killing me so I'm ready for something consistent and stable instead.

I would go with the EVolution board for you setup. The results i have seen with blackops, is not as strong with quad core as the EVO:)

I just orderd this WS Evolution board. Does anybody have experiences with this board and 2x2 GB RAM since it seems that high density/capacity RAM really stresses the boards?
Another thing can you pull off the heatpipe system (for replacing the TIM) and put it back on without ruining the "pins/splits" (don't know what they are called) that fastens the heatpipe system?
(I also posted this question in another thread hope it is ok)

I had no problem running 2x2GB at all. i did not test more than 550fsb with 4GB, course its for my 24/7 puter :)

yes...but always be carfull when moving the splits. i also think you can bye them somewhere, if some should be broke. but not sure. Just use something non metalic to squeeze them together and then pull a little:)

Marc# Nope...the EVO eats 550 with 2x2gb for breakfeast:D My old P5E WS PRO did not have a problem with 535fsb with 2x2 or 4x1gb. Also for stable sytem i have to back down to 540fsb, but its still quit ok.

SIOUX can I ask for hints to some "golden" settings for a FSB around 450 with the hardware in my sig - of course with FSB:MEM 1:2? I have not used an Intel chipset for ages and just got used to the BIOS on the SIIE. Need more time if I have to go systematically through the voltage settings. Another question is it possible to set the MHC read delay (tRD) on this MB and what is that parameter called in this BIOS?
I read elsewhere that you mentioned CPU GTL and NB GTL voltage reference as key to high FSB stability. On my SIIE I tweaked these settings as some of the last after adjusting PLL, VTT, NB and SB voltage. So far attempting to tweak the latter voltages at FSB 450 have resulted in lots of Windows corruptions. I keep the primary memory timings constant as well as the v-mem (8-8-8-8-24 2N 1.8 V) and leave the rest of the memory timings on Auto for now. I will work on it.
FSB 400 seems just fine 1N with a multi of 7.5

The best (passing 15 loops of SPi 32M) settings were as follows:
CPU voltage: Auto
CPU GTL: Auto
PLL: 1.7
FSB TV: 1.5
DRAM: 1.8
NB: 1.61 (incresing NB voltage results in freezes)
NB GTL: Auto
SB: 1.2
clock O-C V: Auto
Load line cal: Auto

Besides that I'm struggeling to stabelize my CPU at 10x400, MEM 1600, 7-7-7-20 2N. At least I can pass a 32M SPi but not 1h OCCT yet. Working on it (maybe I should aim lower).

Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.

:D The retails also running FSB like hell.

7 x 572 out of the box - Vtt = 1.38 & Vnb = 1.55 :

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/4674/7x572ok5.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=7x572ok5.jpg)

Maybe I can do 600FSB ~ 1.6 Vnb:p:.

RAM is not much tweaked here, but as You can see this board offers the 1:1 divider also........;)

Think all problems are RAM related - I can't run 266 strap - 333 & 400 is fine and for me only 1:1 & 1:2 divider works - 5:8 is a no go......:(.

Need to try different RAM sticks soon.........

ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution build 0501 (http://strony.aster.pl/pmpcfg/PC/ASUS_X48_SERIES/P5E64-WS-ASUS-EVOLUTION-0501.ZIP)

This one improves much nVidia 9800GX2 VGA performance as well as some others GPUs. (3D01 especially :D)

Thanks pmp much appreciated. This time it is the right one based on the file name at least? ;) Do you have more info/changelog please?

Don't know if those are posted already, but here it goes:

Some voltage measurement points for the P5E64 WS Evolution:
http://i37.tinypic.com/5wf9xz.jpg

p.s. My board overvolts the RAM quite a lot ( 1.60V @ BIOS results in 1.71 or 1.73 [ gotta check my notes ] in reality )

Updated pic with the following voltages measurement points:
CPU Voltage ( Vcore )
RAM Voltage ( Vddr )
NorthBridge Voltage ( Vnb )
SouthBridge SATA/PCI-E 1.5V Voltage ( Vsb_pcie )
FSB Termination Voltage ( Vfsb ) [ aka VTT Voltage ]
DDR3 RAM Termination Voltage ( DDRvtt ) [ Vddr_vtt ]
CPU PLL Voltage ( Vpll )

I still have a hard time getting stable around FSB 445-450 with my setup.
It turns out that my systems crashes (show werid graphics/colors) within minutes in games (COD4, Crysis, Oblivion) when running 445x9 (RAM at 1780) even though it is Prime blend stable and Memtest stable for around 18 h. However running 421x9.5 (also 4 GHz) is Prime blend stabe for 24 h and runs games perfect. I wonder whether it is my CPU or the motherboard/BIOS that is holding me back? I don't think it is my memory since they run error free Memtest and It does not help to loosen timings or use 2N. I have been tweaking for months but can't get it stable at FSB 445+
