here is my current setup:
cooler master centurion 5 mid tower
abit ip35-e
q6600
9800gx2
audigyzs
4x1gb corsair xms2

after doing some research for my first wc, these are the components i think i will look to use:

mpc655 pump
apogee gt cpu block
swiftech mcr220 qp rad/res
radbox to mount externally
7/16" tubing? is this correct size for this pump?

this look okay? budget is a huge factor for me. i would like to start out just cooling the cpu, but will probably add the vid card to it on my next gpu. would you guys recommend or not-recommend buying any parts used? i would think all woudl be fine to buy used, except maybe the pump. thoughts? thanks in advance guys!

Go for the D-Tek Fuzion V2 with the quad core mid plate.

7/16" tubing will fit over 1/2" barbs which is what the pump has.

not as budget friendly as the block i had chosen. are the results that much better?

For a quad core cpu, yes.

For a quad core cpu, yes.

And since the block is not made of Aluminum.

The Apogee GT is not aluminum... :shakes:

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Watercooling + budget board = NEVER good combo.

Here lemme flash you back to my nightmare:

yes ive done it, and i was very pissed i did it. Why? cuz the IP35-E is the most sorriest board for high end quadcore overclocking period. Its great for moderate and air clocking. Because your serverly limited on air on quads. However drop water where you can crank up a bit more voltage, and the board is no go.

Trust me, just get a better board instead if you want to go high end overclocking, and then water that.

Also here is my proof, Max OC on that crapastic Abit:

i was sad cuz if i pumped more voltage, the board would randomly reboot. Heres how that exact chip on even a crapastic 680i.

So no, dont. It wont help you overclock any better on that board.

Oh i should note, its not just me whose made this mistake. On anandtech i was prewarned of this by a forum member. I went what the hell, i got extra parts, lets pimp that 690. Ummm yeah i ended up crying and replaced that board in 2 weeks to a P5K-E Wi/Fi.

wow. never heard that before. i've always heard good things about this board. my q6600 will post up to 3.6 on decent volts, my old wolfdale ran 3.6 on stock volts (never tried higher). in any case...

the whole scenario is based on getting me started on wc on a budget. i upgrade often so, it's not really all that relevant.

my question is more about, are the parts i have selected good for a budget build and will it do okay cooling a quad and gpu down the road?

OH okey, then.

Swap the block for a D-tek fusion and add accelerators in the future when needed.

The D-tek Fusion by far has the best multi characteristic role out of any block. Can be a very free flowing, low restriction block, to drop accelerators, uber headpressure pump, then it turns into a performing monster.

Rule in buying radiators is get the largest you can possibly fit. The price difference between a 220 and 320 is very small. Most people end up regretting they bought a 220.

That D5, which is called a 655 by swiftech. Is it Vario or Non Vario? The Non Vario isnt worth it as its limited on setting 4. The vario which is 10 dollars more expensive has a lvl5 setting. If i think of anything else i'll let ya know. :T

EDIT: im sorry, there is no budget way of cooling the 9800GX2. Budget + GX2 shouldnt be in the same sentence even.
For this i only have 1 advice which is 2 words:

Seperate Loop.

thanks. i plan on mounting the radiator on the rear of my mid tower with a rad box, is that possible with a three fan radiator?

i didn't plan on wc the gx2. i plan on adding the gpu to the loop when i get my next card, whatever that may be.

if you rad mount using the middle out of the 3 yes its possible. :T REmember barbs dont need to be on top. They can be on bottom and you can use your case pci slot holes as passthrough.

thanks, i had no idea!

wait.... i had planned on using swiftech radiator/resevoir

i don't see a combo in a three fan. i suppose if i go three fan i need a seperate res??? :(

Yes, they don't make the reservoir version of the mcr320.

swiftech micro res is very budgetable.

T-line is more budgetable.
